thanks to you're video i figured out why the computer wasn't getting any reading changing out valve cover gaskets and putting back all the connections i forgot to reattach the coil connection.saved me so much time diagnosing if there was a ground issue.I'm definitely going to be a loyal customer for getting parts from your company.

@peacehippie32 If it happens more when it's damp out it could be a coil. You may want to get a spray bottle with water in it and spray the coil while the vehicle is running to see if it's arching out anywhere.

@22bradsutter A bad coil will cause misfiring which can cause the vehicle to shake and a malfunctioning coil will usually turn on a check engine light. There can be other causes though.

@dwt56 Have you tried to pull any codes from the vehicle to see what they may pointing to? If you have some, it should tell you what the issue is and help to point you in a direction.

It wouldn't hurt to fix the sensor that's causing the check engine light to come on. Worst case senerio is, it's fixed you won't keep you from passing inspection, it might help to cure your issue.

@dwt56 You could try to replace the spark plugs if they have been in there for a while and also the coil. It may be the coil that's acting up. Hope this helps you out.

It could be that,or you also may want to check the EGR valve to see if it's bad. A bad EGR valve could also make the vehicle run rough.

You may want to check the distributor cap, rotor and spark plugs to see if they are dry from moisture and in good condition. You could also check the spark plugs to see what shape that they are in.

@ecuplanr You may want to check around where you were working to see if something else may have been disturbed that's causing the issue. Possibly a disconnected wire, or bad wire.

@dwt56 That code may point to a multiple cylinder misfire. If you have other codes behind it, they should pinpoint what cylinder may be causing the issue. You could try to clear out the code and see if it comes back after 3-4 heat cycles.

@1aauto Do you mean to replace the coils to repair the misfiring cylinder issue? I have done that, 17 miles later, p0171 and coil #2 misfire came up again... took a little longer than usual (before replacing the coils the codes would come up quicker). Any ideas??

Check engine light was on for a while and the code had come up as an o2 sensor and i was told that it wasnt something to really worry about if i didnt mind a little lower gas mileage could this sensor be causing these problems? I tested the front three spark plugs by disconnecting the cable while engine was running to see if all were contributing is there anyway to test the back 3 with out removing the manifold and pulling them out?

Hi, We have a 1990 ranger and we think the fuel regulator needs replacing. The issue is when idling we need to pump the accelerator pedal to keep the idle going...? And the location of the fuel regulator is problematic. What would you suggest and advise? Thanks!

Need help I had codes come up on my 2003 ford ranger 3L V6, p0302, p0303, P0171. I replaced fuel injectors 2 and 3 replaced ignition coil, cables, sparkplugs, 2 new 02 sensors in the front not the downstream. And I still got the codes for cylinder 2 and 3 misfire along with bank 1 system to lean. What could be wrong now most of the parts are now new and still having these problems. I'm wondering if my truck is now long gone and not worth fixing. I just need help :/

I have a 95 ranger XLT that's being passed down to me it turns over but doesn't start I've heard it may be different issues but a guy that I work with came and said it's most likely the spark coils , Back when it was driven by Grandfather it would die on him towards the end , would that be the result of a bad coil pack?

When my 2000 Ford Explorer V8 is having ignition coil problems does that drain gas, as well as how do you know if its the coil or the cords that connect to it?

If you have a coil that isn't firing correctly it may use a little more gas. If you get a spray bottle and fill it with water, start the car and mist water over the coils and wires, you may be able to see if one of them is arching out, which would enable you to see which one needs to be replaced. Hi I have a '99 Ford Explorer and I have just ran the code reader, it says misfire on cylinder #2 along with P0171 and P0174 which are basically fuel system running too lean on both Bank 1 and Bank 2. Could those be due to a defective coil? Please advise...

Have a Dodge Stratus 98. It runs real rough at times when Im in the stop position or park. Kinda Boggs down as well when driving. Slow to get speed. I had spark plugs and wires already maintained. Could this be the coil or Oxygen sensor?

i have a 2002 f 150 4.2 ltr and the engine runs rough with a check engine light. i am getting 2 codes one is 316 misfire during start up under 1000 rpm and the other is 302 cylinder two misfire. Ive changed the plug wires and that specific plug, but keep getting the same codes. im going to change the rest of the plugs but could there be something else before i change the coil pack or should i try that next? any help would be greatly appreciated

Yes sir- I actually have a questionI hope you are willing to field for me? I’m replacing my Coil packs ( dual packs) on my ‘94 Ranger 2.3 l 4cyl. It’s super used and when I bought it I needed to do a lot to it. Anyway, I noticed each of my coil packs is only held on by 1 screw each. Instead of 4 each. :( so I NEED to buy additional screws. Normally I would remove 1 and drive to hardware store and go in to get them. Don’t have enuf for that either. Lol So I believe the heads are 7 mm(?) but what about the thread and length? I know it’s a crappy question but can u help me? I really hope to hear from you real soon?!?!??

Check engine light was one awhile ago but then went off , the code was for an o2 sensor could that be the cause to these problems, also i tested the spark plugs by disconnecting the cables while engine was running to see if all were contributing properly and they were, is there anyway to test the back ones without removing manifold? @1aauto the codes say po300 mostly and random other cylinders misfireing. I was wondering if my 2004 4.0 has a camshaft synchronizer ....I here a chirp coming from under the hood sounds like a cricket. One thread I read says that the SOHC 4.0 does not have the synchronizer...I am a machinist not a car mechanic so I am lost on this type of system.

The other thing it could be is an injector. If you run a scan and figure out which cylinder, it is a 40 dollar part.

That was awesome but how do you know that was the bad part ? The engine light came on in my Ford sports trac they gave me two pages of thing it could be. Ford Sports Trac 2003 6 cylinder. 4.0 ? I just do not want to spend $75 for a part that Might be the problem. trouble code p0303 . Changed the oil spark plugs wires air oil and gas filter. And bought a can of injector cleaner. Runs fine except at take off. Sometimes will stall completely out. Let it sit for 10 - 15 min. starts up and runs ok. But sluggish at take off.
