Thank you for posting this - I just completed this repair on my van. I have two pieces of advice for anyone else - definitely remove the 10mm bolt on the ac lines to give you a little more wiggle room, and remove the top covering the radiator/fan. This will give you a good place to get your arm in from the front to help stabilize & manipulate. Good luck!

I just completed this job with the method described in this video. Is it possible? Yes, I was able to do it. Is it "easy?" NO, it is not! It did save time avoiding the hassle of removing the cooling fan, housing, and some plastic pieces. But, maneuvering the alternator out of the mounting area, then maneuvering it into the mounting area took patience and a good bit of trial-and-error positioning. I appreciate the video, and it did work, but "easy" is not a word that I would have used my friend. I did "like" the video because of all of the hard work that went into it. I would caution home mechanics to be very careful and patient because you run the risk of damaging your power connector rubber boot and terminal connector plastic shield if you get too rough with removing the alternator.

Connector with rubber boot should be removed before trying to take out alternator and connector, who care if damaged, you're putting in a new one and when it gets remanufactored it gets replaced anyhow.

Kudos on this post ! Saved me a TON of time. Took a few gymnastics to get the old one out, but the hardest part of putting the new one in was the serpentine belt. All told took about 2 hours to complete. You are the man !! Many, many thanks.

Thank you so much for posting this, and taking so much time to carefully explain everything. I had to rescue my mother as her car flashed all its dash lights and cut off while she was driving. I had previously charged her battery as we thought it had just drained because of lights or something. Started and drove more or less fine until it cut out. I am somewhat mechanically inclined but I hate these "sideways" fwd engines. Thanks to your explanations, I feel so much better about the job.

I think I also stuffed a rolled rag and jammed it right above the new cover. I can take a pic. Truth is, I forgot about it, not having opened the engine in a while. Thanks for asking. I'm not sure how to show you it. ? I did find the leak. It's on the side and not front facing seam. It's where I really can't tighten anything.

Therefore, I've tried it. Fingers crossed. I am planning to get a thin stainless steel sheet and try to cover the alternator when I install a new one in.

I did this on my 2012 Sedona. The connection was in a different position and was easy to remove while the alternator was in position. It was really tightly wedged in place. After removing the mounting bolts, it was necessary to use two large pry bars to remove the alternator.

2015 Sedona does NOT have room to easily pull the old one out or to place new one in. AC hoses are in the way and there’s way less space between the frame. Sux for us 2015 owners.

Really helpful, thank you! Easy way indeed! (so much utter nonsense out there by long-winded idiots wanting to take off front end and/or side wheel) One tip for fellow DIY'rs.... make sure you do the connections to the back of the new alternator BEFORE you mount it. (I didn't, and what a pain!) Separately, astonishing how bad the videos are out there for just changing/putting back on the serpentine belt! (do one of them too)

next project for me is finding chronic oil leak and fixing. I already did the infamous front valve cover gasket two years ago. Next up the horrendous backside valve cover gasket (and will change plugs & such while there). But I'm suspecting I'll have to deal with an even more challenging leak -- from the "timing cover" area. (no videos anywhere for that mess -- afaik)

Did you fix the oil leak from the valve cover? That was the cause of your alternator failure (and mine) so if you don't, you get to replace it again next year.

Here in Winnipeg I had an alternator replaced in my 2006 Kia Sedona for about $800 , consider that the alternator at a auto parts store is about $300 with the core charge , $80 refundable when you return your old alternator ,

reverse of taking it out its not rocket science , just a little bit of common brain work is required.

The process of removing would be not much complicated but the the process of installing the alternator will not be easy at all without taking off the cooling fan radiator because you'll need to push and line up the alternator hole and that is tight space.

I had a wire running down towards the power steering pump that was connected to both the positive and the connector for the alternator so when i pulled it up to unplug anything it ripped the wire out of the connector

The video was thorough in the beginning , but no reinstallation of it. I had it hooked up and in the bottom of the open slot-track, but had problems completely closing because the holes wouldn't line up, because it wouldn't budge or give any further . The hole distance for alignment is off 1 inch. Has anyone had this problem maybe with advice?

Would of really helped if the year was put out there first. On a 2012 , the motor mount comes out and motor is tilted up and alternator is pulled up and out after removing radiator hose.

for some reason with the Kia Sedona in my experience 2006 model , the low voltage from the alternator makes the battery light and the parking brake warning light on the dash come on .... in my case oil from the leaky valve cover has ruined my not so old alternator

My jawn was soo close but the compressor lines are run on the side of my firewall instead of the top and in no way could I pull it out this way. Was able to drop the compressor and pull it from the bottom but was not an easy install at all. Patience!

Alternator burned out due to leaking valve gasket. Tell that customer he needs to get that front gasket replaced or he will be needing another alternator in a few thousand miles. Good video otherwise. More Sedona videos would be appreciated.

@@crazysexycool180 I have a 2006 Kia Sedona and likewise my alternator is only giving me 11.84 VDC across the battery when running , no increase in voltage at 2000 rpm or more , and to Rick's point yes my previous alternator was only a year old or slightly more and died because of the leaking valve cover gasket which in this case ruins a perfectly good alternator in a few thousand miles ! Valve cover gasket video I suggest ! Appreciate your efforts !
