thanks for the video changed alternator on a 2008 amanti and took the fan and air intake off front alternator came out easy and didn't have to remove the pully thanks for video

All cars have a tensioner pulley. Telling people to take that whole bracket off is adding labor to a job.

I took a different approach. I took the crossmember out and the fan on the left side. I didn't take any of the pulleys off. I used the tensioner next to the bolt on the pulley.(Its the the thing that looks like a bolt with a hole on top of it.) That seemed a little easier than taking the pulley off. But I do like watching videos of people using different approaches. Use my approach if you don't have a way or really don't want the hassle of getting underneath the van.

Alternator bolts are 14mm not 15 -.- Belt tensioner is able to be de-tensioned via the 19mm stud just to the right of the 17mm bolt you removed..

I have a 2007 Hyundai Entourage basically same as a Kia Sedona of same year.. While driving in town just now my brake and battery lights came on but rather than staying on constantly they would turn off about every three seconds then come back on again. Does this mean something different/worse?

It will not shock you but could damagae electrical parts in car from shorting out if positive lead touches metal an grounds out if battery is hooked up.

Your front valve cover gasket needs to be replaced. The rubber gasket gets hard and seeps oil on the corners onto the alternator. If you don't, it will foul the new alternator.

Wish that was my problem. My oil leak is from the timing chain cover sealing. It would be a lot of work to try to reseal that. Any ideas on how to protect the alternator from the leak? Like with some aluminum foil on the top half? I am trying an oil leak sealing additive fir know. I hope I don’t have to remove and clean the alternator for at leaSt 2 years. I ruined this alt by degreasing with water hose to try to pin point the leak. Water must hace gotten to the brush chamber and caused a short. The brush chamber was full of brush material sediments.

@@jcplancarte2521 I would not use foil. The alternator needs to cool and foil could blow around and short on the alternator terminals. I was thinking of making a rigid roof by cutting 2/3 of the walls out of a large can and keeping one end to make a mounting hole that would go under the tension bolt. Restaurants have commercial size cans that are as big as the alternator. I went for the repair because I was tired of cleaning the odd drip on our driveway pavers

Disconnecting the positive does nothing. You have to disconnect the negative.

Don’t take the battery cable off while the engine is running! Bad test! It can fry the voltage regulator, the computer, other electronics. Test the alternator with a multimeter. Better yet, let an auto parts store test it.

this test is for most pre 1990 autos as you are right about frying components, but as for the voltage regulator they are built onto the back of the alternator which was started by GM in the 1970s.

The transmission and the alternator are totally separate things. All the alternator does is charge your battery thats it. I guess now you just have a transmission problem.

@@adamcrownvictoriacarrepair7105 I gather you concur then that removing that pulley may not be an option. So what slot at the top are you referencing? On my 2009 Sedona, seems the common guidance on other videos is to remove a cooling fan (and the shroud/assembly, etc)....

It came out right thru the top. Get a good size pry bar to help you break it loose.

So, I tried it your way and there is no room to pull it or push it out. It's like getting a round peg through a square hole. A smaller square hole. The car I'm working on has some subtle difference's than yours It's a 2013. Your car must be an older one. I suppose I'll have to remove more parts to get to it.

Don't shove too hard or pull. It is a very compact space. I did also have trouble getting it out you Just take your time and it should come out.

it's a sedona at least 2006 which I'm pretty sure is the same for the 2013.

@@robchickslife6888 Sad to concur with Monongahelian..... I have a 2009 Sedona with same engine, and that pulley removal tip at about min 10 might well have opened up enough space -- if only. On my Sedona, the pulley isn't held in with a conventional bolt with head on it, but with a long threaded bolt .... with a nut on it -- and the pulley turns with it.... Did your bolt turn separately from the pulley? See no other way that will work short of removing the entire fan/shroud..... (and of course, the miserable Chilton says nothing about this)
