Probably a good idea to change the spark plugs while you’re in there. Great video btw, love the detailed step by step.

If they have not ben changed, yes do them. I have done a few of these since, and the spark plugs actually don't take that long to access if you are doing them yourself. It looks scary, but it is not. Thanks for your great suggestion.

This is an excellent video. I love the details and the great shots of otherwise hard to see places. I have to do this on my 2012 Town and Country this weekend. Like you, I'm a pretty good mechanic, so I wasn't intimidated by the job, but it is really nice to catch all the "watch outs" you gave us. I also bought an all aluminum housing. We'll see how it goes. Thank you for all of your time and effort in bringing this to us. First-rate work. Cheers. Michael in Utah.

Thanks for the nice pep talk! Yes, you should be able to do this. Once you start into it, you will ask yourself "why was I worried?" The hard part will be bleeding the air from the system. Measure what coolant comes out (If your not reusing it) Although good idea to probably refill with new as it is 12 years old! You will want to know for sure how much came out as I had a hard time getting it all back in. I would have sworn it was full! Let us know how it went!

I bought the amazon part from the description for my 14 town and country and had it blow out 4 liters of oil onto the shop floor. Took everything apart, inspected, double checked gaskets and oiled them up, but the same thing. Soon as I started the engine again, took about 30 seconds, then bubbling from the housing unit and oil all over the floor as it overflowed. I'm buying the 300 dollar auto zone version. Hoping for better results.

Which brand and part number did you buy as your replacement unit?

The owner supplied the part, so I am not exactly sure which brand and part number it was. I would just not buy the cheapest. I did include in the discription some links to some I found on Amazon.

Think it would be good to clean the engine when doing this work. also keeping the intake openings protected even when one connects thr electric wiring is just good practice, perhaps a standard of care pratices should be followed. All the very best.

Cleaning would be nice if you were a mechanics shop and had a pressure washer available close by. I don't know about you, Johnny, but you have a list of standard of care practices you follow at your house? My hobby here at home can't follow such practices. If I was a business, or was being paid, then things could be better. All the best to you too.

Did you change the oil after replacing the oil cooler? Does that become unneccesary if you drain the coolant before?

I did change the oil. Coolant will still get into the oil when you remove the cooler. Oil change is cheap insurance.

Hey, in case you don’t have a nice torque wrench like that, the formula for conversion to use ft lbs is: foot pounds = inch pounds divided by 12 (for every 1 ft pound there is 12 inches) So basically you’ll need 8.83 ft lbs for this.
@unclemarksdiyauto4 ай бұрын
@@treshaunejimmerson4033 most ft lb torque wrenches start at 30-50 ft pounds. Even if they started at 10 ft lbs, I am not sure how accurate a cheap wrench would be.

I’m not exactly sure how to test the accuracy of the one I happen to have. It’s a Pittsburgh 5-80 ft lbs torque wrench. Do you think I should trust it??

@@treshaunejimmerson4033 Not sure what to say. If you have done the job already, it has to be more accurate than trying to hand tighten without this tool.

@@bulbman7080 The factory plastic ones I believe are too fragile in my opinion. I have replace and swapped to the all aluminum ones on to different vans so far.
