Loved your video. You are very detailed which makes a big difference. Keep up the good work. Regarding the high pressure line at the steering box where you used a 14mm line wrench (I think that's what you call it) it has the "o" ring on it. I need to know how far down to tighten it because for some reason I have it in my head that it is flush with the steering box and it didn't show in your video. It showed you starting to tighten it but not when you finished tightening it. I still have a bad leak after replacing the high pressure hose but I'm almost thinking it could be the pump. Hmmm.

1995 Ford F-150 whiney power steering. 300 4.9 lt. Replace hydraulic lines, steering box, pulley, tensor pully, serpentine belt, and have tried 4 remanufactured power steering pumps. I bought a vacuum bleeder kit for my pump. Cannot get whining out of steering. I use type F atf per my manual. I am just trying to find someone with answers. Thanks for any reply.

question: if the pulley has a 1/2" play back and forth,being loose,is it the pulley itself or the pump?

Apparently after little thought I concluded that the pulley does not have a bearing, as it is pressed on to turn the shaft. My problem is chatter seemingly coming from the PS pump pulley. There seems to be excessive end play from the shaft and when I pull the pulley in and out I can hear the shaft hitting up against the inner casing. I saw that end play is common with these pulleys, but I think mine is a bit excessive lending me to believe that the shaft bearing is worn. I have no other noise such as the typical whine when low on fluid etc. I saw that one guy posted that his problem was the pump hold down bolts had vibrated loose. So I will check that out by seeing if the pump is loosely attached before replacing the pump.

Did you hit in w a hammer ? And is it supposed to have a little play ?

My 2000 F150 V6- you use a 15 mm socket on the tensioner pulley bolt and turn it counterclockwise to loosen. The bolt is a left hand threaded bolt so it does not loosen when you turn it counterclockwise. Does this pulley have a bearing that goes out? Mine has been making noise and using a hose to my ear I figured the noise was coming from the pump. I removed belt and the pulley has excessive in and out play. Haven't taken it off, but figure it has a bad pulley bearing as the pump makes no typical squeal noise and is not leaking.

How do I install the pulley without a install kit

Can I leave the power steering pump attached and just change the pulley itself is it required to take the pump off in order to install a new pulley or is not really not necessary ?
@1AAuto4 жыл бұрын
+Danny Holman You don't need to remove the pump itself.

If the pulley is locking up do you need to replace the pump? Can you just rplace the pulley
