I want to start of by saying that your channel is by far one of the top greatest and helpful one. You saved me lot's of time and money today. My radiator on my 98' Chevy Silverado had a leak. I found the leak when I was underneath the truck greasing my ball joints. I freaked out for my truck is my only transportation for me and my family. I was going to take it to a mechanic, but then I remembered about your channel. For I've visited it for some tips on a 97' Ford I had. I took the radiator out and followed every step you did. I didn't use a pan to catch the coolant, I just let it drain on my grass. 2 days later which is today, I bought my new radiator and installed it just as you showed in the 2nd video. It was a success and no problems nor leaks. Thank you sir!! 👍

I've replaced the radiator in my 1996 Tahoe about 2 years ago. Not a hard job at all. Yet the quotes I get to R&R it are insane. Close to $250! It may be 38 degrees out but I'll install it myself before I pay that!

I am literally about to install a new radiator into my car now. The current one busted a couple weeks ago. Won't hold liquid for more than about 10 minutes. Got an all aluminum one which I hope is an upgrade. Thanks for the video. This should make it fast and easy to remove and install the new one.

Thank you, I have worked on cars and trucks all my life . It is great to get a brush up on this , as I just got my first Suburban , used for cheep , and it is 95% in great condition. Just spotted a old crack in the radiator , expect to put a few 100 in up grades. I have a feeling I will be keeping this beast for a long time . Thanks again :)

I subscribed yesterday. Thanks for the vids on the 96 K1500 Suburban. I have learned a helluva lot about the little quirks of this model and have already done several repairs from this info! I always loved these truck but it was only last June until I became the proud owner of one... a 1997 K2500 with a 7.4 liter gas-guzzling Big Block! It can be a huge PITA to maintain. ...but what really pisses me off is that I love my big BURB!

You should have a couple of transmission lines and possbly also a couple of oil cooler lines.

There is a green coolant that they sell that does say "for use with all coolant colors" or something to that effect.

I hope you check this. I have coolant that was literally pissing out from behind a cap that was put on with a hose clamp on that top port. The cap seems to balloon when it heats up. You said it was blocked on yours. Do I need yet another new rad within a year of changing it

@impolw22 if i remember right, you dont want to use green if you engine is designed for orange or purple. these arent supposed to be interchanged

The two larger in diameter hoses are your oil cooler lines. They will each be on the same side. These often fail on GM vehicles and in fact in this video you can see one has failed (notice all the leaking oil). The smaller diameter hoses (metal hoses) are your transmission cooler lines and will be resident on the opposite side from the oil lines.

I hate factory spring clamps. Good for manufacture but not maintenance friendly. I always replace them with worm drive hose clamps. Once a spring clamp has been disturbed, it may... or may not provide enough clamping force for a good seal. Why take the chance? Worm drive hose clamps are much better, in my humble opinion...based on 40+ years of experience... however, use a good quality stainless steel hose clamp.

That blocked off port on the new rad is for a k2500 that has a separate coolant bottle on the inner fender. Mine is a 01 k2500 8.1 suburban.

An 8.1 owner! The Holy Grail of factory Big Blocks! I found one in a salvage yard for $1300. Should I get it and drop into my 97 K2500 Burb? I'm tempted... Your thoughts?

Do I need to flush the old coolant when I replace my radiator? I will be using the green coolant instead of the red coolant I use now

J Powers, for sure. but i would look up which coolant to be using. don't switch colours just because. a lot of coolants don't work for all cars. just make sure from your manual book you use the correct one.

I replaced my water pump today and decided to flush the coolant as it was mostly water and when i turn the drain plug drain everything and then it started leaking from the bottom of the drain plug as im feeling under it its like a small steem that there may have been a lock on the drain and i broke it i dont beyond frustrated

You should flush the cooling system when replacing the radiator also replace the thermastat.

Supposedly, some companies like Prestone state that their fluid is compatible with all colors. I however am very skeptical so I picked up 2 gallons of the GM Dex-cool(concentrated type) from Walmart for $15 each. A little more than Prestone but preferable for 2000 GMC Sierra 5.7 Vortec

@@luissonoma6255 If GM approves it for your Sierra, you're good to go. Good on ya for keeping up an older vehicle. I have learned over the years that factory parts are more reliable and consistent, although more expensive. Case in point, I'll spend the extra $100 for a fuel pump that doesn't take a shit after only 50 miles...

You pointed out the problem 7:19, a radiator clamp turned sideways, but didn't show how you moved the clamp. I tried raising the radiator but it didn't help. Going down to Harbor Freight to find a pair of short handled pliers. Do you have any thoughts?

If you can't remove the existing clamp, resort to a last measure... Cut the hose off so you can remove the radiator and then once the radiator is out and on a bench, you can easily release the spring clamp. I hate spring clamps. They're good for the manufacturing process but not very maintenance-friendly. I ALWAYS replace them with a quality-grade stainless steel worm drive or band clamp. Hey, the lower radiator hose needed to be replaced anyway...Do yourself a big solid and upgrade your stuff!
