Excellent video….thanks! Awning replacement on my Heartland NT with the Carefree awning went exactly as it did in the video. Wife and I were able to do this in about 90 mins and was a surprisingly easy diy. For some reason I had always thought an awning fabric replacement would be an expensive nightmare but it was actually fairly cheap and was very easy to do.

Very informative and accurate video of how to replace a "Carefree Awning!" We watched the video a couple of times before we attempted to install the new awning replacement! We did this in less than 30-minutes, noting an additional screw in each end of the caps, plus the removal and replacement of the set screws on the tube! Thanks for this very informative and accurate video! Well done guys!

Our 2017 Lance 1985 was in a hail storm a few days ago and although we aren't currently full-timing, we did take 5 weeks off this summer from managing our campground in FL and do not wish to lose our travel trailer at Lazy Days for a few months during hurricane season. I can replace my vents myself, not too difficult. Your video shows me I think we can replace our awnings ourselves, however our is the version with the horizontal arms. I am going to study to see how replacing this awning fabric compared to the vertical arm versions. Thank you for helping us all educate each other! -Dave

A black awning? Less than worthless in any warm weather. I used an infrared thermometer on our awing that is white at the top and brown at the bottom and it was 10 degrees hotter on the brown end. You can feel the difference in the heat radiating from it. Great instruction as usual.

Hi Peter! We agree that lighter is cooler (white being the best), but it's surprising how many RVs have darker-colored awnings and slide toppers to match the look of the rig. Ours are all dark green, and it's not bad at all. The customer whose trailer we demonstrated this on ordered black, and that's not all that uncommon what with all the darker and full-body-paint rigs these days.

Thanks, I’ve been pushing off & procrastinating about doing the Awning replacement, But This video is actually very helpful, & makes it simple & A lot less intimidating 😎 Another issue I have is with the AC on top of my RV. Mechanically it seems to functions normally but where the air does Not blow cold. Can You possibly make a video Regarding this topic/ Ac maintenance. & Making sure Your RV AC is there In good working order blowing nice & cold 🥶 for the hot summer days after a long winter Season. Maybe a valve where one can add more Freon? I’m sure I’m not the only one having this issue. Tnx any Advise would be appreciated.

Hi Zev. Good timing on your question, because one of our two A/C units recently failed after 15 years. But there's no way to re-charge the refrigerant, and we'll be demonstrating how to replace the whole unit in an upcoming video. The one chance we know of that you might be able to get your current unit working..... IF it's blowing cool at all, but just not cold. If so, a good cleaning of the fins might work (there should be some videos on that out there). But if it's blowing hot, you may be in the same situation we are, and need a new unit.

Do you need to replace the set screws that were in the roller tube?
@RVgeeks Жыл бұрын
Hi Timothy. Please refer to our reply to your comment on our other related video. While unsure of the specific screws, you’re referring to, everything should be put back the way it was, but the screws should not have to be replaced with new ones unless they’re very rusty.

Very useful! I’m gonna do it. Question: Our awning has two wires that run the edge of the awning I’m assuming to power the LED lights on the end tube. Do new awnings have those wires installed with a universal connector? Thank you. 2016 Thor Vegas 25.3

Great question, but so sorry we don't know the answer to that one. We'd suggest a call to Tyler at Tough Top Awnings. He seems to know absolutely everything about every awning model! You can reach him through their website: toughtopawnings.com

Thank you for sharing, how long does the awning fabric typically lasts?
@RVgeeks4 жыл бұрын
Original OEM fabric seems to last about 3-5 years. Our Tough Top Awnings fabric is like new after many years, with no signs of aging. Like night and day.
@dennisrogers51064 жыл бұрын
Good job with the how to video. I find it strange that the awning material is black. Might get a bit hot under that awning. Or is that the new norm?
@RVgeeks4 жыл бұрын
Hi Dennis! While lighter colors are generally more practical due to being cooler, the color is almost always selected to match the color of the RV. Lots of darker colored RVs (ours included) have dark colored awnings and slide toppers, including black. White ones are of course the coolest, but would look pretty bad on some RVs. It reminds me of that old Billy Crystal SNL character, Fernando: "It's better to look good than to feel good." LOL We always say that our next RV should be very light colored (white/tan, etc) with matching white awnings and slide toppers. Beige is easier to keep clean too, since it's the color of dust and dirt. 😊

This looks like the first awning my wife and I replaced, on our 1988 camper. That had to be 15 yrs ago. I'm pretty sure it was a carefree as well. Not to sure black would be a good choice of color since it absorbs heat.
@RVgeeks4 жыл бұрын
There are a surprising number of dark awnings and slide toppers out there (ours are dark green and not bad with heat). I think the old SNL Billy Crystal line about of it being better to look good then to feel good definitely affects some of the style choices. White is definitely the coolest of all.

We have a 2018 Coleman, and it was nothing like the video showed. So you should make sure you mention which Coleman model you are working on.

The title of the video clearly states that it is a Carefree of Colorado powered patio awning, not a Coleman. You should make sure you know what brand you’re looking for when you search or view a video.

FYI, I noticed that she skipped re-installing the set screws on the roller tube?
@RVgeeks4 жыл бұрын
Good catch Jim! Tyler of Tough Top informed us that that set screw is completely unnecessary with the new fabric, because it uses both awning & valance tracks, and will not shift. Sorry we forgot to mention that. Also, no Dometic awning that we've ever seen uses those screws either, for the same reason.
