Thank you, thank you, thank you! My dad is in his 80's and stopped working on cars years ago, so I do all his work. I'm a good mechanic but have never worked on the Buick. I was going to go in a different direction. You saved me loads of time and cursing. I appreciate it greatly. Anyone needs parts you'll get a thumbs up from me!

1. Motor mount removal allows removal of the belt, but your sequence of steps does not show the point at which the mount is reinstalled, does it? That would be the last step, if the order of steps is simply reversed. 2. Do you recommend changing the tensioner pulley with every belt change?

I wished I watched your video first before before assuming that the pulley that wasn't turning correctly, was the water pump, when actually it's the AC Compressor. Plus it's good to learn what the other pulleys are called too! Thanks a lot!
@1AAuto11 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately you need to have some pulley on there or the system will not work. You can purchase one of our A/C bypass pulleys. It will replace the A/C compressors spot and still allow you to retain the original belt with no issues.

Helpful video! -A little hard on the hub cap / center cover though. Looks like she needs a set of tires! For reference, the stud he removed with the 18MM jam-nut takes an E-10 "reverse Torx" socket, in case the jam nut doesn't pull the whole stud.

Thanks so much for the video. The part about removing the E-10 stud instead of the whole mount saved me a good bit of time. For the life of me I couldn't figure out how to get the belt back on. I watched a second time and realized that the belt diagram in my Haynes manual is wrong (this particular one is pretty much worthless)

@bobgreene28924 жыл бұрын
This is not a major production budget video, so the in-close camera work did not reveal much of what the mechanic saw in the confined pulley space. The most important item to remember-- as narrator points out-- is the belt-travel diagram at the beginning, and the order of points in which the belt was inserted. * I especially enjoyed the part on removal of the shroud attachment rivets-- "Remove the three rivets (shows two being removed) here, and here..." then a quick camera movement over the splash shroud, but no rivet is to be seen. Later, we learn the rivet is missing (welcome to the world of older cars). I liked and subscribed.

You should mention you need a deep 18 mm socket for taking off the bolt on the motor. The center stud sticks out making it impossible to use a regular socket. It's no fun being stranded without the correct deep socket! 🙀

This procedure almost works for a 97 Buick Riviera except that the motor mount nut with the stud attached is in a different place and there is not enough room to get it out. A really stupid design, Detroit!! My mechanic friend says it is damn near impossible to get that bolt out without actually moving the motor. I gave up! If anyone has a solution let me know. I am just putting up with a squeeky belt right now.

Would have been cool if you said that the stud is threaded, and also that the frame is in the goddamn way of the stud coming out. For those who are stuck, the stud has a hex head on it, not sure of the size but I put a pair of vice grips on it and used that as a wrench. Will edit the comment when I figure out how to get it fully out. 100% useless video. EDIT: Aight so what you have to do is take off the two nuts on the left side of the belt pulley system. They're 18mm and you'll want a deep well socket for them. I used two extensions to make it easier. Once those are off, you'll want to lower the jack (like mr 1AAuto did off camera) and that will allow the engine to drop off of those bolts, which will allow you to pull the stud the rest of the way out. You'll also need to remove the upper stud, which also isn't told on this video, and to do that I removed the nut and then used a gator grip to remove it the rest of the way. The piston came out, but I still had an issue of getting the belt itself out. To remedy this, stick a flathead screwdriver in between the motor mount and the metal bracket that goes to the alternator and pushed like hell. Then you just put the new belt on and call it done. I also uploaded a video explaining it a little better on my channel. Hope it helped more than this video did.
