Wow, that was educational! I have a 3.8 1996 Regal that threw the belt a few days ago, and I see a misaligned tensioner. I thought it would be super simple until he drained coolant and started pulling hoses. Wow! Well, this is just what I needed to know.

Yup, and I thought it was just a simple V belt change...LOL Great video sir and I will need to view again to perform on my 1998 Buick Park Ave. Thank you for the instruction.
@packrat762 жыл бұрын
The V Belt isn't particularly easy to change either. You need to get a star socket set as well. Harbor Freight sells them.

Can you help me out what is the tensioner attached to I have a coolant leak coming out of whatever that is into the engine block
@airimpact10 жыл бұрын
The cast iron piece broke off in my engine block. I used a thin chisel and after heating it bent it on a 90 degree and then another 90 doglegging it. After tapping it in with another small chisel and then pulling with my new tool i got the lodged piece out without to much trouble.

I can here the tensioner click. Elbow get destroyed. How many miles on the car? What's your thoughts on metal eldows?
@packrat762 жыл бұрын
You're going to better off using metal replacement elbows but the older O'rings that came with them weren't very good but I think the newer Dorman replacements addressed that issue, if not, get the GM O'rings.

I can't remove one of the elbows that bolts on the coolant line. Any idea? Or part number for a new one

@1AAuto6 жыл бұрын
+Tuna 156 It may be a good idea to double check the installation of the changed components and the routing of the belt to ensure it's correct. Easiest place to start. Thank you! 1AAuto.com

I my car to the mechanics because the temperature goes high. So they change the water pump and Thermostat and also change the belt. The car was fixed but next day I heard a noise from the engine. I bring my car to the mechanics again and they said is the belt tentioner. I think they damage that when they put the belt. So now they said to fixed will me cost $150. What you think? They damage the part or just want to do the labor because will be a new job?

+ROD Sculpture Thanks for checking out our videos! Unfortunately, we aren't able to give you a diagnosis for what's going on with your vehicle. Either situation is possible here, we'd suggest getting it checked out by another local mechanic if possible! 1AAuto.com

replace the stupid plastic coolant elbows with aluminum ones!
@johnwagner45595 жыл бұрын
I cringe everytime I see people NOT exchanging the plastic elbows for the superior aluminum ones. Just foolish!
