This is a second video I watched, made by this lady. Excellent Quality Video, Clear, Concise and she makes it look so easy. I am thoroughly Impressed! Thank You! My 2004 XC70 Volvo is getting new front Struts now.

I just have to say a huge thank you for this video. I am not necessarily comfortable with mechanics, but I can follow directions and this video was exactly what I needed. I just changed my shocks on my 07 Volvo XC70 with only the help of this video. She was clear and concise. Thank you very much for putting the time into sharing with us!

impressive teaching skills, and very safe to work. No power tools used which is a good way to teach others specially since improper use of them usually damage stuff.

Great video. I have a favorite new KZbin mechanic! And Sue did this all without a single power tool! And being from Massachusetts myself I could understand her! Great job, Sue!

I did this repair on a 2004 V70 in January 2020 and I'm about to do it again on a 2006 V70 (January 2021). One thing I learned after nothing would budge, was the car was in PARK. Once in NEUTRAL it all came free. This would be an important note to add to this training. Thanks

Be sure to use idp reinforced silicone strut mounts. Standard ones prematurely fail after about 50,000 miles. I learned that one the hard way. Thank you for this excellent video.

Love the vids, great instructions, pleasant to watch. I don't understand the "frustration" with assembling a wheel without studs though, I've have never ever had any trouble putting a wheel on a "studless" car and I have almost exclusively worked on European cars... 500 milion people in Europe don't understand what you mean...Lmao All kidding aside, keep up the great work, have a like!

Make very sure you support the hub as mentioned, they will pull the CV bits and bobs apart if you let them swing free.

Support point for tilting down is choosed wrong. In this way you can damage a shield (thin metal plate behind brake disc) that in later can corode and lead to abs sensor damage or even abs ring damage. I personally lug all nuts in place and use soft wooden blocks under brake disc. This will not damage it, if placed carefuly. Sorry for my english.

I notice that Sue took out old strut assembly with round strut bearing plate (see video 7:06) & installed new strut assembly with square strut bearing plate (see video 7:43). Can the strut tower fit either shape? Sue is working on the Volvo V70 (P2 chassis) front wheel drive.

Question: When reinstalling the strut assembly the nice young lady here mentions one has to push down fairly hard on the control arm while pushing up firmly on the strut bottom to align the bottom bolt. My question is - if the bottom of the control arm is already supported by the jack stand as she did in the early part of the video - How will one be able to push down fairly hard on the control arm? Any comment/help here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Was concerned seeing how much the CV joint was moving in and out during this part of the procedure. Had a joint pop out too much doing this on a Camry.

I was thinking you have to have the front end realigned after strut replacement. Is that the case?
@madseskildsen39152 жыл бұрын
Your website lists the wrong part for the V70 AWD. Impossible to get in with out a spring compressor because the strut is to long.

Could I run into any major problems by using an impact driver to tighten the bolts down, disregarding torque values?

I have a 3/8” drive torque wrench with angle that goes up to 100 ft-lbs. Does the overall peak torque exceed 100 ft-lbs after applying 77 ft-lbs + 90 degrees?

Jack up both wheels! I’m not a mechanic, but I have heard that it’s important to always jack up both wheels for a strut change.

"i can't find any difference" Girl, I can tell just by looking that my strut has been replaced in the past and that it's your part
@roogermoore12 жыл бұрын
this is not an easy job. Buy and use replacement bolts and nuts. The control arm nut is so close to the strut you have to use the open end of the wrench, and remove at 1/6 turn increments. Reconnecting the strut is more difficult. My bolt needed to be replaced, and on Saturday all the dealerships were closed, no autopart store carried the nut or bolt, neither did the hardware store. I was forced to use the old, knowing I will have to tear it down again to replace them.

It’s a car with millimetre sized nuts and bolts so you have to have to have the right tools- safety, damage prevention etc. walk the walk when you talk the talk.... and all that . sorry, have I just made a rhetorical statement ?

Beginning in 1973 all vehicles sold in the U.S. use metric fasteners. You may have noticed that engine displacement is no longer in cubic inches but in metric units of cubic centimeters (cc) and liters (L). e.g. a 2.7 L means 2.7 liters aka 2,700 cc(s). Chevy 181 = 3.0 L; 194 = 3.2 L; 207 = 3.4 L; 265 is a 4.3 L; the 283 = 4.6 L; 302 = 4.9 L; 307 = 5.0 L; 327 = 5.4 L; 350 = 5.7 L and the 400 = 6.6 L We are the last of 3 countries on earth that have not yet completely adapted the metric system.
