I did not have to remove the sway bar links because I disassembled both sides at the same time. This way most of the spring tension is relieved on the sway bar. Worked for me...

1OlBull I have a 3 1/2 strut spacer will the same method work ?
@silfortytypex5 жыл бұрын
1OlBull you are correct you do not need to remove sway bar links at all like he does here that’s just making more work for yourself he is probably just trying to juice the customer for more labor and parts money. You also don’t have to go with cheap crappy strut assemblies from 1AAuto if you actually care about your vehicle, go with Monroe, KYB, ACDelco or something of actual quality.

Clinton Hogan Agree, but who makes the best strut assembly?
@neckbone49414 жыл бұрын
@@silfortytypex actually, if you really care you would do it the long way and get bilstein shocks all around.

I just swapped mine out on my 2011 Silverado 1500 2wd crew cab v-8 5.3 litter. Removing the sway bar links was not necessary on my truck. I used a Pittsburg jack and the strut assembly just came out towards the engine block. The holes did not line up but I was able to line them up with a pry bar and also if you do end up taking the sway bar link off it’s going to be difficult to get them both back on without having to loosen the opposite side just fyi.

Great comprehinsive vid. I see a ton of how to replace videos on you tube but none really adressing how to determine if yours are in need of replacing or what to do if you find your top nut to be loose after it's installed on the vehichle for some miles I bring this up because I recently discovered my drivers side front strut had a little latteral play in it and after finding out how to hold on to the stud to tighten up the nut, I did get the nut to turn but I never got anything any tighter. I'm in a 2012 GMC Sierra SLE Z71 4X4 with 4" rancho lift and rancho struts. The lift is just about as old as the vehichle with 178,000 miles on it. I bought it with the lift already on it and I just got new wheels, tires and an alignment. I'm honestly a bit concerned about the tread life on my new tires if there is an un known alignment enemy waiting in the wings. The alignment shop gave no mention of the loose strut bolt at the time of alignment back in october 2020. Any advice is greatly apreciated. Thanks

@Mr.boxxchevy5 жыл бұрын
Yes this is what I like rusted bolts like most vehicles around here are. Could had made it easier for yourself if after taking off the nut on the end link you would have just cut off the bolt head instead of the sleeve.
@joshcohen50273 жыл бұрын
Great video sir, but use the ratchet on the nut, instead of turning the bolt with the ratchet use the ratchet to spin the nut and hold the bolt with the box end wrench.

The other video of this exact same thing from 1A auto said to torque the bolts to 75-80 ft pounds, this one says 37 ft pounds??? Which is it??? Also, is it possible to replace just the front shock absorber, or do I have to replace the whole strut just to do that?
@MegaCody832 жыл бұрын
From my understanding, it's 75 for lbs for top nuts and 37 ft lbs for bottom bolts.

No requirement to destroy a perfectly good sway link to do this job at all. It does not make it that much easier...in fact, I will argue you wasted WAY more time wrestling that link out then just getting the strut done.

I replace my struts about a week ago, it wasn't that hard. The only thing is that my suspension feels more stiff and going over bumps feels like a knocking sound.... I checked and double clench everything is torque down to specs. Is this normal? Do the struts need to be break in?
