What makes this tutorial stand out above the rest is the clear well-spoken instructions; but, in particular, it's the advice on recalibrating the new battery which puts it way ahead of other tutorial videos. EXCELLENT!!

Excellent instructional video, however, I found it difficult to reconnect power cable after the battery had been screwed in place, as the wires were quite stiff and I had difficulty getting the battery terminal end to insert into the little slot. I loosened the battery, easily inserted the battery terminal end and retightened the screws. So, I would advise connecting battery to computer before tightening the screws holding battery into place.

My only wonder with this strategy is the possibility of static discharge because you're bringing a metal screw driver close to a plugged-into-power machine. Not sure if that matters or not. I also had the issue with the wire being very stiff.

Fantastic Video! I know NOTHING about the internal workings of a laptop. As far as I'm aware, both computers and the internet are run by sorcery and magic. But I was able to follow this video easily and make the replacement myself. The video is easy to follow. My laptop battery was DONE. My laptop would not turn on for even a second if it was not connected to the power adaptor. Currently my battery power remaining is sitting at just under 16 hours. THANK YOU! :)

Very helpful video thanks. I bought a (cheapish) non-Apple replacement battery - not your brand, sorry - with a relatively long cable and no pull-tab, so I had to compress the wires into a very small space. The only advice I'd propose for other battery installers is to make sure that the connector's terminals face down, and not to try to force the tab into the slot with the terminals the wrong way round, i.e. facing up!!

When putting multiple screws back in on any type of cover, one should always work in sequence where you skip one overthe next, and it takes two rounds to complete. Best is to not tighten completely first time, thus it takes 2 turns, and with skipping requires 4 rounds

If possible, please remove the back panel from your Mac, and unplug the battery connector. Hold down the power button for 10-seconds, and then replug. You can then perform the SMC & PRAM resets again. I have included the PRAM reset info below just incase you need it. PRAM RESET 1.Shut down your machine. , "all the way down, not sleep or logging out" 2.Press the power button and then press command-option-p-r. You have to make sure you get those keys pressed before the gray screen comes up or it won’t work. 3.Hold those keys down until your Mac reboots again and you hear the startup chime. 4.Let go of the keys and let your Mac reboot normally. Hope this helps and if you need further assistance please don't hesitate to reach out 1-800-275-4576 or Email us at support@macsales.com

Then I plugged it back in and turned it on and the battery percentage has said 1% for hours now and doesn't seem to charge. If I remove the AC power the MacBook says it will shut down any moment due to low battery. I don' know what to do. It's like the battery and battery percentage reader was working fine until I decided to discharge the battery.

Calibrating the Power Management System is this recommended on an old MacBook Air 2013? I got it as a gift and noticed the battery drain too fast and may need a new one, so figured I could try the battery tricks to see if it just needs recalibrated so to speak. Any suggestions or would this maybe help or not recommenced for old batteries as they may not come back after 5 hours of complete drain Does this not drain CMOS too and maybe a bad situation for some? t
@poweredbyowc

Calibrating the Power Management System is a recommended step, including for a MacBook Air 2013, as it allows the Mac and battery to properly communicate and work together to provide you the best information as to the design capacity and current charge capacity. Doing this calibration may definitely help with that MBA, however if for any reason there is any other issues or concerns, feel free to contact us using our support page tab @ macsales.com We are always happy to help :)

Hello and thanks for inquiring! I believe what you are looking to do is condition your battery for use after installing. 1. Perform a fresh charge to the New battery without uses. 2. Disconnect your MagSafe from your Mac and use until 10% or less. 3. Perform another fresh charge to the New battery without uses. 4. Repeat steps 2-3 four to five times. 5. **Once a month perform steps 2-3. This will get your battery used to charging and dying normally, if you have any further questions please send them to support@owc.com and we can assist further!

MacSales. com i bought the macbook battery from ifixit before i saw this video and i put it in and it does work altough it was tough getting the battery cable back in because it was to long and had to bend it backwards a little, on the old factory battery they had that too but in the new one it was also a little too much to the right. Now it does turn on and i'm in the process of calibrating the battery but when i used the trackpad to shut it off it wasn't really clicky on the top anymore and on the bottom it was a bit stiff, is this really bad or do i just take the cover off again and loosen the screws of the battery a little more. Sorry for not buying the battery from you guys but your video sure was a good help.

In the new replacement battery kit that I purchased, the user manual said that "Pls discharge the battery to 2% and then charge fully to 100% at the first cycle after purchasing. Do NOT discharge the battery pack to 0% as that will damage the battery pack and shorten its life. However, in this tutorial it said that we should discharge to 0% for the first cycle. Which one is more accurate? Thanks!

Hi WC, With the calibration process 2% would be the max percentage that would be recommend the charge be at prior to fully charging the battery to 100% for the calibration process.

I have a mid 2013 Macbook Air 13 inch, which shuts off when I disconnect the power at 70%. I have reset the SMC but still occurs. Do you think my battery needs replacing? Thank you. If so I will use the excellent tutorial.

Pram reset didn't work. I believe there is a process where I run the battery down and start from fresh and re-start. Do you know what this is please? Sorry to be a nuisance.

Great video, loved the calibration part at the end. I own a Macbook Air (A1466) and my battery needs replacement. I had a quick question, I saw elsewhere that there are 3 options for a replacement battery, all indicated with an A number. My macbook is manufactured in mid 2013 - does anyone have an idea what the compatible battery might be? I think it might be a A1496, but I'm just not sure. Your inputs are most appreciated. Thank you!

The battery would still work but we do recommend the calibration process to get the most out of your battery

On the first charge, If I don’t leave it charging for an extra 2hrs after the light turns green, and went ahead to discharge it completely; will it be correctly calibrated? Or do I need to do the calibration again?

@@poweredbyowc Thank you! For some reason after doing the calibration the new battery lasts for a day, even though I only use the laptop to browse. The original Apple battery used to last sometimes even a week. Is this normal? What can I do to fix this?

@@sabisbliss Our batteries are designed to last anywhere from 3-5 hours on a full charge, depending on use. If you are not seeing this life span, there are a few things we would want to do to see if we can get the battery working properly for you. The first thing I would recommend doing would be resetting the System Management Controller. Resetting the System Management Controller (or SMC) in a Mac can be a useful way to troubleshoot various kinds of problems that arise, typically related to power issues or issues that coincide with new hardware being installed in the computer. Detailed instructions on performing a SMC reset can be found on Apple's website here: support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295 After resetting the SMC, I would also want to perform a NVRAM or PRAM reset. This can be done with the following instructions: PRAM Reset: 1) Start the machine while holding down the Option-Command-P-R keys 2) Wait until you hear the 3rd startup chime, then let go of the keys and let the machine boot up.

HELP. Followed your instructions, successfully installed new battery to my mid 2013 Macbook Air 13. Followed calibration, but while discharging at 46%, laptop turned off. Pressed power, laptop starts but turns off again a few seconds later. I did this like 3X till laptop won't turn on again. So, re-installed OLD battery. Laptop works. So, what just happened? Appreciate any info. I'd really like a new battery as I keep charging every 5 hours. It's done 2700 cycles.
