Awesome job, thanks for putting this video together, I have to change the engine in my sons Elantra and I wasn’t sure it could be pulled out the top as most videos show it coming out the bottom. Lots of work but definitely can be done in the driveway.

I found it faster and easier to remove the bumper, core support, radiator & condenser all in one piece. you just have to bleed out the refrigerant and plug the lines immediately as you remove them so when you get it back together just put the 134A back in it. With the entire front removed you pick the engine straight forward. This really helps when you are going back with a new long block because you have better visual to label lines, wires ect. PS. GREAT VIDEO,

Thanks for all the tips! Mine was locked up as well, but I was able to separate the engine/trans in the car and get the torque converter bolts out so I only pulled the motor. Good tip removing the exhaust manifold to reinstall. I didn’t even have to remove the radiator or fan. Thanks again for the work you put into this.

I'm from South Africa. I have the 2012 2.4 and have just developed a rod knock at 150k miles :( The sound only comes in at about 3100 RPM, until that point the car sounds perfect and feels smooth with no indication that the engine is about to die. Engine rebuilder quoted me almost double the cost of a replacement minus labour. I will likely buy a new motor, open and check the crank and bearings then do a swap. Unfortunately, the US recall is not valid four SA cars despite the problem parts coming from the same place. Thanks for your detailed video. I will certainly use it as a guide when I replace my motor.
@s33therfan2 жыл бұрын
Yes , these engines are very expensive. I got an overheated engine with a good short block I am holding on to in case I need it in the future. But anyways the swap went smoothly on my gls and I found the engine bay rather roomy compared to others. Best of luck on your swap and I appreciate the feedback.

@s33therfan2 жыл бұрын
Great feedback, I'm glad you mentioned this because I've noted myself on this most recent engine I replaced with 70k. It uses some oil , not a lot but does use oil with no leaks. Also these take 4 8 quarts and hasty shop oil change combined with oil consumption could be a recipe for disaster. I know there are other engines I've had that were low , but these hyundai engines are not forgiving. Thank you for the great feedback and maybe your advice can save someone else an engine.

great job, quick question if the flywheel is not spinning freely to mate flex plate does that mean it not seated correctly? Working on Hyundai Accent, set up looks identically to yours. I can turn the flywheel with a tool with a bit of force though, just not spinning with finger like yours. If i loosen up all bolts a bit it spins easily with a finger.
