How to replace the Fuel Tank on an F30 340i

Nice video man. Thanks for the real-world DIY instructions. My 2012 328i started spewing fuel 3 days ago and it appears that its leaking from the tank on top of the drivers-side. I looked through my records and found a letter from BMW that says theres a 15yr/150K extended warranty on these fuel tanks, so I'm optomistic that it'll be covered. FYI, I read that since 2012 was the first year of the F30, BMW actually reused the previous model's fuel tank and just plugged outlet holes from the previous design. Over time, these plugs get weak and can leak. I guess we'll see if mine is covered, but if not...your video will be gold for me to do the repair. Thanks!

Luckily on my 435i BMW has a recall on the fuel tank. Also it got a new fuel pump under waranty at only 4000Km. BMW's fuel supply system seems not to be the most quality one...just think of all the injector problems on the N54/N55 engines. But great video, very informative.

Since family isnt in town to fumigate, i topped off my gas tank and parked in hot garage. Removed rear seat and sure enough see a pool of e85 on top hat. Will need to do this to replace or fix tank

Is there any way to smoke test the scavange air line that goes from the tank to the fuel tank breather valve? How should i do it? I suspect it leaking as my car was manipulated with a lift

I went from doing valve cover gaskets, control arms, oil pans, water pumps and etc on E9x chassis to rebuilding engines (N20), replacing fuel tanks, timing chains, on these Fx chassis 😅

What problem do you have with the fuel level and didn’t you need just to replace the fuel pump, not the whole tank ?

I appreciate this video!!! How did you get the emergency brake cables to come down loose like that? I popped the lines off the clips but I cant bring the cables down at all like you did. Any help is appreciated!!

I undid the drive shaft bolt. What did you do to get it unseated from diff?

the driveshaft? you have to remove the center bearing bracket and pull it out of the diff

@@kern417 I ended up just unbolting from transfer case but i had already undone the bearing bracket and still couldnt unseat. marked it with paint to maintain balance though!

My fuel tank is leaking too i just noticed it today. Is this a common problem? Would it take away performance?

i wouldn't say it's super common but i have seen some people with that issue. it won't affect performance but it is a safety problem. leaking fuel is very bad.

BMW extended warranty on the fuel system to 15yr/150K miles on several early F30 models. Check with your dealer before fixing yourself (if you haven't already)
