Thank you so much for the video. The mechanic I called was going to charge me $500 to fix this. Miraculously, my wife found your video by searching, “Volvo squeals while idling” and stumbled on your video, I had Autozone run a diagnostic test and it showed up as PCV valve. Bought the part from a Volvo dealer for $200 and installed it in about 20 minutes. Thank you for saving me $300 and making me look like a hero to my wife.

Hi Brian, same for me as well but mine is a 2010 XC60 T6 with the same problem. Part number is also the same. Only difference is the rear of the PCV is really hard to get to. The XC90 has a lot more working room to remove the Torx 30 at the back. I lost two of them down the back it replaced them with bolts instead of the Torx. Anyway it took me an hour as I did it only but it saved me $$$ and the part cost me $180(australian dollars as I’m from Sydney). Thanks again mate for the video.

The torque for the bolts is 10 Nm or 7.4 ft-lb in case anyone needs to know. Since the housing has metal reinforcement at the bolt holes your rule of snug plus a quarter turn should be sufficient for all those who don't have or want to use a torque wrench. Thanks for the video!

@marcwoodward8056
@marcwoodward8056 Жыл бұрын
@@pgreenx the valve is part of the housing that has the gasket attached. You can buy a valve replacement kit much cheaper to just replace the valve but that is more involved & may not last. You do not need the power ratchet in the link, just the replacement part. You can easily replace it with hand tools. I highly recommend magnetized torx bits for the rear screws since there's very little space & is easy to drop them.

@@pgreenx FYI...I realized the work being done in this video on the XC90 which has allot of space between the housing and the firewall. I have a 2014 XC60 and the procedure is pretty much the same except that the XC60 has very little space to get at the back screws thus my recommendation of the magnetic torx bits which I did not have at the time so I used electrical tape to hold the screws onto my bit. If you have an XC90 like this one the job will be super easy!

Can a busted diaphragm on an oil trap cause no start? My 2009 S80 apparently had a malfunctioning oil trap and caused the engine power to drop while I was driving. After returning home I was going to drive the auto store to have them read the codes, however, my car sputtered and stopped. This happened after a few attempts and it has not left the driveway since. Prior to this I did have code P0171 and I was troubleshooting: Cleaning the throttle body (it was gunked up), cleaned the mass airflow sensor with a mass airflow cleaner. Just bought a new oil trap and I am running through my troubleshooting options before installing this part.

I have a 2011 XC60 T6 and it has 1615xx miles so far. I got a p0171 code first about a year ago but I keep driving it without any issue. Acceleration is good and idle running is smooth. Gas mileage is also consistent. Couple months ago I got a P0193 code so I replaced the fuel pressure sensor today and code 0193 was gone. I don't hear the high pitch/whistling sound while the engine is running (park the car and open the hood) however, I did hear the hissing sound when I pulled the engine oil dipstick out and it was hard for me to open the oil cap.
