must you drain coolant before starting this process

You may want to lower the coolant level in the radiator into a bucket, so that it doesn't leak while making the repair. 1aauto.com 866-403-3393

What is that loop the thermostat sits in called? It's metal and goes around the alternator to the opposite head. I have a leak in mine and need a gasket. Really need to know what it's called.

Watch your temperature gauge in the vehicle. If it's not getting up to a normal range even after it's been running for a while, it's probably a good idea to replace the thermostat. Especially since it is such an easy and inexpensive fix on this vehicle.

those spring hose clamps should be re-installed exactly where they were before, as they now fit into dents in the hose. putting them anywhere else could easily cause a leak.... my 2 cents...

On my lincoln it has a plastic riser and the thermostat sits on top, antifreeze is leaking from the thermostat housing, do i have to replace the intake manifold the engine overheats in 5 minutes?
