I have just been looking at this belt drive area in the John Deere repair manual I found online. I have a lx 176 I got almost 10 years ago but just got going recently. It’s in really good condition needed a few things fixed. So it runs and works great. But after running a while I hear and feel a noise in the idler pulley area. Looked up the repair. First I see it’s not that easy being that you have to do it from underneath. Will have to get in there. It probably is going to need all the things you replaced. I’m pretty sure they’re all original. One thing I did see in the repair manual is that there is an actual adjustment procedure for that flat idler and belt tension. There is a mark on slot for a linkage but they also give a spec of 5/8” from the end of of the slot to the center of the rod with the belt engaged. Thanks for the video. Very informative for a walk through before doing the job.

Would appreciate help,after my successful belt install on lx188-thanks to your video- my deck lift lever won’t move. Button works but can’t move lever at all. Does mower deck have to be mounted first???

After spraying WD 40 with silicone finally got the lift rod to move. All good now thank you.

Thanks for posting this video. It's exactly what I need. I just got a used LX 176 that needs belts and pulleys. However it looks like i am missing one of the idler pulley brackets. Are those still available?

You will need to contact a John Deere dealership to find out.

Check the transmission belt number to your machine and if the number is same I will assume it is the same.

Sir, please tell me what oil goes into this LX172 transmition. Thank's.
@JohnsonsSmallEngines4 ай бұрын
If you have a LX172 your transmission is greased packed and is non serviceable. If you have a LX176 you would use John Deere Hy-Gard oil.

Thanks, I have one, but a spring puller for this job would not work do to; what you cannot see in the video is the angle where it is needed to be able to use it.
