Just a heads up for the novices like myself out there. This video shows a 4WD, if your truck is rear wheel, there will be no axle to take off. You will use a 7mm allen wrench instead of the T47 to get the brakes off, and a 36mm socket instead of the 32mm to get your hub nut off. After you take the brake caliper and the rotor off, all you have to do is take off the hub nut, and the bearing slides right off. I was able to get one side done in about 30-45 minutes.

I ordered the hub assembly for my Dakota, it came with the abs sensor and was very inexpensive. Just installed it using this video, a little different but this video prepared me for what i was in for. I kept the video up on my phone while doing the install. Took me about 1.5 hours to complete and now my truck is riding good. no more squeaky squealing and the ABS/BRAKE lights are no longer lit up on the dash so I'm happy happy happy. Thanks SO Much for helping us DIY'ers!

Thank you so much. I ordered both front hubs for a 2002 Dakota and they fit perfectly! I did not remove the half shaft, I used a deep 14 mm socket and was able to break loose the 3 hub bolts. It went together great, thanks to your video!

That should be fine as long as there isn't a whole lot of force used on the pry bar. You may also want to check your ball joints to see if they are okay. Hope this helps you out.

Sometimes well use the same part of one video to show you how to tackle another project. If your brake pads are fine, you can leave them in place while you tackle the hub. If they're worn, now would be a good time to replace them while the pads are off.

@TheJeremyCupp On this vehicle the hub and the bearing assembly are one unit. They are not servicable, so you wouldn't need a press, they bolt onto the steering knuckle. Hope this helps you out. Have a great day!

@TheHillbillyRidge If the front makes kind of a roaring noise above 30 MPH It might be the hub. The tolerances on some of these new hubs are so tight, that you can't always see if there's play by moving the tire back and forth. This same thing happened on my 04 Grand Cherokee. Once I actually took the hub off I was able to move it with my hand. Hope this helps you out. We sell hubs on our website 1aauto,com If that ends up being the issue.

For anyone that is disassembling a Dakota or Durango but plan to reuse the hub/bearing unit and easy way to remove it is to loosen the hubs bolts about 3/4 of the way out and then use a hammer to smack the bolt heads. It will force the hub out of it's bore without distorting it. Then you can remove the bolts completely and pull it out.
@1AAuto12 жыл бұрын

@FuttBuckerByMutt5 жыл бұрын
This might be helpful to some people (especially to people who live in the salt belt). On my 99 Dodge Dakota in order to remove the wheel hub from the steering knuckle I ended up taking the whole steering knuckle off because the wheel hub didn't want to come off. I beat the living hell outta that thing too, heat, rust penetrates, and I even brought out the BFH. I then took the steering knuckle to my buddy's house to use his 12 ton press and even that struggled to get it off. When it separated it sounded like 12guage went off. I was lucky that nothing broke and no one got hurt. In the end I wish I took it to a shop because I wasted a whole weekend on the stupid thing
