Bro!! Sooooo NICE! If my headliner is only coming off at the rear window ( fiberglass backing, GMC), is there any way to help it out? I live in NM, the sun gets brutal. Also, is there any prevention that can be taken before these start peeling, or is it just manufacturers error? What car brands do YOU think have the best quality Headliner??? Just curious. Thank you for opening up your shop to us, brother👊
@oldschoolautoupholstery
@oldschoolautoupholstery Жыл бұрын
Hello Brother JB, The problem is the foam seperating from the fabric. If this is happening, this is a warning to you to get your headliner changed. All car brands are guilty of using this type headliner material. If it is just the edge, you can try using a brush and contact adhesive. Thanks for watching!

Hello Duck, You are so welcome! Thank you! I just use the cheapo Harbor Freight spray gun with the stock tip, (Size unknown) Never thin the contact adhesive as I use it strait from the pail. Very good video. Thanks a lot for your knowledge that you are sharing with us. I Want to ask what kind of glue you are using, the specification that it has. The second thing that i want to ask is are you leaving the glue some time in order to become tacky or after the application of the glue you are starting to apply the textile on? Also there is textiles that have different thickness of the foam material. Do you know how much is the thickness for a Kia ceed 2011 model and the thickness for a VW Golf 5 (1K1)? Thanks for your help.

Hello Christo, Thank you so much! This is another good video that talks about glue and headliner materials. kzbin.info/www/bejne/monTd2OFpcSriLc I only use contact adhesive for everything. When gluing soft to soft like materials to foam, there is no time before joining the fabric to foam. Only have a dry time if gluing to something hard like fabric to metal or plastics. For standard headliner fabrics, there is no worry about foam thickness. This isn't rocket science, just keep it simple. Please keep liking and watching!

Hi Mr Rudolphs, Thank you for your great job and shearing all your professionalism with us. you inspire me to do my own headliner replacement job. I got a big problem that ruin my job and my fabric 2 times. As soon as I lie down the fabric on the plastic roof and it touch an incorrect place, it is impossible to lift or take off (detach) to correct it, without damage the fabric. In your video you do it very easily many times. My question is, how I could do this successfully. I do not have an air compressor, so I use Permatex adhesive in a spray can. If you could answer my question, should be very helpful for me. As always thank you very much for your help and time.

Curious about the gun cleaning. Seems like you keep the same type material in the gun but do you store the glue in the gun and just clean the tip/needle? Or do you dump all to another container and clean the entire gun? Took 2 years of college body and fender when I was stationed in SoCal but that was like 24 years ago. Some things still roll around in my brain, some just escaped. Other questions later my friend. Like a 2005 Silverado interior color change (all gray) but would like to pad the hard plastic and then vinyl or leather over that. Sem paint on some, hydrographic wood trim on others. I bought it new but started working overseas and she only has 40,000 miles on The clock. It’s in my shop all the time so out of the weather. Cheers.

Hello Paul, I would say that you need to continue to get rid of the old foam that is the problem to begin with. Use a good wire hand brush to strip it away. Be sure it is all gone before putting your new headliner fabric and do not use a spray glue from a spray can. Only use a contact adhesive even if you have to spread it by brush.
