No putty for the basin and no teflon tape or paste on the threads of the tail piece. It'll be a miracle if it doesn't start leaking.

Awesome. I agree, it’s simple but watching someone before you attempt the rust time just adds reassurance. Also. Bioshock, awesome. 👍

Very helpful and simple. Thanks. Should plumber’s putty be used when installing the new pop up?
@FlippinGenius4 жыл бұрын
In the video i didn't use plumbers putty, I simply forgot and later reinstalled with it. So yes you should use it if you can.

Love this video! Thanks! Question: When you were removing the metal nut that pressed the gasket against the porcelain bown (under sink), you used your pipe wrench - which direction did you turn the nut? If you are under the sink looking up directly at the bottom of the porcelain bowl, it appears you turned the nut COUNTER CLOCKWISE. Is that correct? I have a very tight nut, and I'm trying not to turn it the wrong way. Thanks!

First faucet/drain my husband replaced was a nightmare. Second one, he talking about calling a plumber. Wife watches this you-tube video. Now second one is accomplished without a plumber. Third one is a cinch. All three same day. LOL Thanks

How 2 turn the upper nut if it's very thin, need a special tool?( Metal sucks 4 plumbers only?) And when I try 2 loosen it gets tighter- counter clockwise.

My sink has an overflow in it, so the popup I purchased has a second set of holes, to allow that water to return to the drain. The problem is, I can't get the bottom seal to stop leaking, I've tried plummers tape, made sure the bottom rubber gasket, is centered, and followed install directions to a tee. I've also had 4 other friends come over and try their hand at it. The water still comes out below the ring, that is supposed to keep the gasket in place. It just appears to be escaping thru the threads. What do you suggest. Thanks
@howardsilver83962 жыл бұрын
Teflon tape the threads, and get a separate thicker, tapered rubber seal for in between the Drain basket and the Sink. Some of the thin gaskets that come with the basket are not adequate to seal it. 100% Silicone clear caulk under the Basket Flange, or if drain is not Plastic, Plumbers Putty, should resolve the leaking . Make sure the sink basket opening is well cleaned, and the discharge tube nut below is adequately tightened, but not over tightened.

So no plumbers putty up top to seal the drain? Is there a gasket of some kind that makes that seal?

Nicely demonstrated. I noticed that you didn't use Plumbers Putty at any point to help with the seal! is this advisable?

TheViewingBox that popup had a silicone gasket that is used in place of plumbers putty.

Tried earlier this week. Thirty year old faucet drain doesn't come off so easily.. Plumber called. Coming out on Wednesday to replace both sinks and both faucets/ drains. I know my limitations. I did install one of the faucets though before discovering that the drain was too difficult to take out for me. Oh well. That's why we have guys who know what they're doing and can do it.
@jimlabos5 жыл бұрын
The drains that do not have overflows on them are easy and usually do not need putty or Teflon tape. When you have an overflow one the threads most often will leak. Then you need to resort to Teflon or pipe dope etc..
@bernabetijerina71045 жыл бұрын
Can you apply teflon just to make sure it wont leak?
@dwjudd3 жыл бұрын
Why are you replacing the whole drain. If its just the "pop up" thats not working, just unscrew the chrome top piece, remove the popup mechanism by unscrewing it, and buy a new popup - cheaper, less hassle and quicker
