Excellent young Patrick, its so good to see a tool being restored to its former glory. Old power tools were built to last, my Dewalt contractors saw is only 3 years old with very light use and it has started to fall apart. Time to scour the junk shops for a fixer upper I think.

I love a good restoration. I only have enough patience to get the tool running again. I had to change the bearings on my old craftsman table saw after about 12 years but I got it when I was 17 so it wasn't as old as yours. Luckily my dad had a bearing puller cuz it wasn't budging. Craftsman tools aren't my favorite I find they used to try and be innovative or something and so they end up having very specific parts or things about them that aren't very universal when you have to find new parts but I guess my grandpa liked them cuz I ended up with more craftsman tools in my shop then any others lol

You're gonna love that saw when its done, I tore my craftsman saw down cleaned it and put it back together unfortunately i didn't have a sand blaster and didn't paint mine cause I was pressed for time on an upcoming project for my sis- inlaw, I can now make furniture grade cabinets! The saw that I picked up at an estate auction had to have the motor repaired. The motor start switch {internal} was bad, and of course its no longer available...anywhere. Amazingly, the guy doing the repair found a new "old stock" starter switch in an old box of parts that he kept for just such occasions. Of the 5 or 6 repair shops that are around the area I live in, he had the only one. I found the part number on an old motor parts breakdown {30453} Sure enough none left anywhere...except the shop that repaired mine. Awesome.

Im doing a restoration project on a craftsman saw just like this one. It was in bad shape but its slowly starting to look new again. Since I dont have a proper cabinet to do any sandblasting, I've opted to just use a vinegar bath on the cast iron top and all the mechanisms for lifting and tilting the saw. Left them sitting out for most of the week and once I got them out today, they looked good as new! All thats left is to paint the parts and replace the bearings on the arbor. Should have the saw up and running by the end of next week if I can get enough time during the holidays hehe

Looks great Patrick I have refurbished several Craftsman table saws I noticed in your video you recommended using grease or oil on the trunnion slots. I personally believe this is the wrong choice as both collect Sawdust. Your best option is a mixture of candle wax and graphite what you need to do is go to your automotive supply store buy powdered graphite then go to your local Walmart and just pick up a cheap white candle and then just a metal soup can to melt the wax in. You will also just need to get some scrap wood and make some little squares 1 inch by 1 inch by 1 inch or I have used old ice cube trays these will be used as forms for the graphite/wax. Take a piece of foil and line them with foil melt some of the wax and mix as much graphite as the candle wax will hold. pour your candle wax and graphite mixture into your molds and let them cool once they have cooled you can then rub them on your trunnions and in the slots they will not collect sawdust like oil or Grease but they will allow metal-to-metal to slide because of the graphite in it. you can also use it on the all threads that tilt and raise and lower the blade.

So, I found 1 similar to your in the trash a few years ago san motor. Tried selling it at the swap meet earlier this summer and noone even offered me 5 bucks. Guess most aren't creative enough to figure out how to either add a motor or even slave another machine with one of those segmented belts. I googled hoping to see what it might be worth and found these vids. We lost our house and my job so I need money. After watching this, I'm gonna sell my 1999 Dewalt DW675 w/sliding table that I paid 1500 bucks for and just restore this.Slot this lil solid bugger into a nice custom cab and add a Bisemeyer and I prolly wont miss the DW a bit! What a waste of several hundy for that sliding table attachment I added! On second thought??Hmmmm, could easily graft it to this jewel!!

WoW I wouldn't know where to start taking a Table Saw apart and rebuilding it, cleaning it and all that crap is about as much as I can do if I was helping. If as you say people are saying you are going a bit to far then tell em to Sod Off, this isn't just a Table Saw to you it's a Memory of your Dad and what you both used to make with that exact saw. If giving it a fully richly deserved make over, and that's what you got to do to get it back up and running, then so be it. Waiting for the bearing changing video specifically. considering having a machine shop do a pressing of the bearings for me so that I dont need to do it. question for you: did you not want to sand blast and paint the arbor mechanism (part with the arbor bearings)? Or are you waiting to get the bearings out before you tackle that portion of it?

What's up Zach I didn't use baking soda ,I used aluminum oxide and it's been used several times so it's worn-out so it doesn't cut as well as it should and it's taking a lot longer because of that reason , I should go get new blasting media sometime soon appreciate you watching buddy thank so much

I have a question, I recently picked up a very old school bench saw, which fits about an 8 or 9 inch blade, with a 1/2 hp motor, could I possibly install a higher hp motor? or is the saw itself/bearings etc designed for that specific motor? if so, would I need to ensure that the blade still runs at the same speed it was originally? thanks.

just finished restoring exact same saw, do you know what size the arbor pulley is? mine is hitting the table top when i raise the blade all the way. i think the pulley on mine was a 2.5"

on mine it came stock with a 2.5 inch pulley but i replaced it with a steel 2 inch pulley i was wondering if the 2.5 inch would hit the iron top now i know thanks

Great video! It's fantastic how metal parts can look even if they were a piece of rusty trash. And... I'm not a safety nerd but I must mention that using a wire wheel without safety glasses is really dangerous. Even the good quality ones lose the wires that can dig into your skin. Imagine what it can do with your eyes. Sorry, somebody had to say that :)

I make a wax/graphite mix that I used on my trunion and tilt screws that don't attract the sawdust yet lube the friction parts. I found the mix on KZbin. I buy, rebuild and sell table saws. this mix works good. Give it a try.

I just picked up one of these saws at an estate auction yesterday for 75 dollars. I'm stoked about starting the restoration process on it .It's really in good shape considering its age. The paperwork that came with it says its a 1954 model. Anyone know when this model came out and what modifications and upgrades were done over the years until production stopped?

are you sure that wheel is actually brass? I bought one from lowes and if you look close at the package it says steel even though its colored gold. Also a magnet stuck to mine. I thought I had a brass one too.

hey Andy well as for the trim and the handles those were such a pain to clean ,in my wrap up video in a week or so i will go over those but i can tell ya , it was a challenge to clean all that trim without messing it up so much in fact i didn't record that part . for the actual face of the saw i used just hot water and dish soap and a kitchen soft scrubber sponge and i didn't push or scrub to hard as the lines in the face started to come off and i didn't want to lose those factory lines , and as for the rusty handles and screws i put them in the sand blaster for a quick second to remove the bulk of the rust and dirt and used a fine brass wire wheel on my drill to clean them up till they shined the fine brass wire wheel kinda polishes the surface its more of a smooth brushed finish now and less of a chrome look but i like it like that. i will go over it in the wrap up video so stay tuned for more i am sorry to skip that part in the video but its just pretty much soap and water scrubbing no fancy tricks or hacks just elbow grease and time thanks so much for watching i really appreciate it

hello Cody nope I didn't paint the trunnions. they are made from metal that is not prone to rust so what i did was I cleaned them to as clean as possible , well actually i sandblasted them and polished them with a fine brass wire wheel on my drill ,if you try this be sure the wire wheel is a fine brass wheel and not a steel one (the steel wire wheel will scratch the trunnions) then I applied a few coats of paste wax and buffed them out till smooth . them after the saw was put together and working I sprayed some dry lube with silicone spray on them for smooth action thats all i did so for maintenance I plan on every so often to use a compressor to blow out all the sawdust and then hit them with another shot of the dry lube thanks for watching and commenting I have lots more projects in the works

Her Patrick, I'm about to buy this exact model (113.29992 correct?) and restore it! You are a king and a gentleman for posting this amazingly detailed instructional vid. Anyhow, I just wanted to ask why you chose to paint much of the cast iron parts grey? It didn't look like they were too terribly rusted, especially after your cleaning. Do you just like the look better? Would you advise against keeping them stock/unfinished for any reason? Thanks so much! I'm sure I'll do a miniature, far less detailed video to document my restoration.

I have a 113 series Craftsman table saw that I am in the process of restoring currently. I have cleaned everything up dry lubed what needed to be and started reassembly. So here is my quandary, I ordered new bearings from the Sears Parts Direct web site which I have never had a problem with in the past. However I am currently running into a problem with the arbor assembly, after it has been completely reassembled I have approximately 1/64 to 1/32 of play side to side. The bearing have to be taped into the race but once in place it seems as though they are loose. They were not like this when I removed them and I have done noting to the races expect wipe them out for cleaning purposes. I know I cannot run the saw like it is so I am open to suggestions as to how to go about resolving this problem, short of purchasing a new arbor assembly.

my best suggestion is add a shim to the inside of the bearing race between the e clip and the bearing race on the inside of the bearing toward the key , use a digital caliper or some measuring tool to get the thickness or trial and error find or make a washer with 5/8 hole and just a little bigger than the eclip we are talking a very skinny shim .011 or less maybe so u may need to find a old set of feeler gauges and use them to find the right size then either grind down a washer or go to a machine shop ill think on it for a while more and if i think of something ill let u know

Okay thanks for the quick reply, I was considering a shim but was not sure if that was a good idea or not. Also your arbor has an E clip on the inner bearing and mine has a C clip. Can you think of any reason there should not be an E clip?

Just did a rough measurement and it is right at 1/16" of play. Does this sound excessive to you?

cant you use vinegar here as well?

yes you could use vinegar to remove the rust but i have a table top sanding cabinet so i opted to use it also a wire wheel on a drill does all you need too thanks for watching
