" A man who works with his hands is a labourer, a man who works with his hands and his brain is a craftsman. a man who works with his hands and his brain and his heart is an artist." Louis Nizer. There is definitely artistry involved in the demanding and extremely dangerous job that the boys at the mops do. Those machines are widow makers and your polishers make it look easy. Without the preparation work they do no chrome can look any good. Another great video and fantastic content. A silk purse made from a sow's ear.

You are lucky to have found them and retain them. Look after them. Down here in Australia, artists like that are hard to find. The ones we have are getting on and there are none coming up to replace them. I see genuine enthusiasm in all levels of your output. Kudos to you and your team Sir. By the way, my dad worked in Melbourne polishing and plating in the 1960's. Worked at the Moonee Ponds Plating Company.

Solar Plating is around the corner from my workshop. Old John there has been in the game for years, I will ask him about Moonee Ponds Plating - he will be sure to know of them. He lets me use his 3 phase polisher/linisher and does lots of work for me. He has taught me a lot about the processes involved. I have been doing my small scale zinc and nickel plating for some years now and have developed an appreciation for the sciences involved, chemistry and physics, and have been striving to improve the results of my work. I restore motor vehicles for a living so have been involved with plating for some time. Doing an Aston Martin DB6 Volante at the moment - chrome, nickel, blue zinc chromate, yellow zinc chromate, black zinc chromate, aluminium anodizing, steam bending wood, you name it. i do the small stuff and John does the big stuff. I metal finish for show quality and John puts the chrome on. We get great results For harder cases I go to Master Plating , they can do acid copper which John does not do - he just does the cyanide copper. Combined we get the job done to show quality standards. Thanks again for your terrific videos.@@ChromeandCarRestoration

@collinrisley4026 Many thanks. I paid to use that song. Unfortunately, despite having licenced, it was reported by BMG for a copyright, and KZbin reduced the views by 90% on this video and 25% across the whole channel. It was sorted, but it took months for the views to recover across the channel, and the views on this never did pick up again. Due to the huge problems it caused, it means I cannot risk using copyrighted music again, so I am now stuck with royalty free. Shame as I would really like to use more quality music.

Considering the metal is already very thin and well corroded from rust. Could a light linish and bright copper be applied and buffed instead before nickel and chrome? Or was there no danger of going through the metal?

On exhausts coppering introduces other problems due to the different expansion rates of steel/copper/nickel. Makes it liable to blister especially attached to a hot race engine.

Hi, how expensive is it to restore and re-Chrome some motorbike exhaust parts, or a pair of oldtimer car bumpers?! I would really like to know a ballpark figure or starting price please! 🙏 in euros or pounds. I would really appreciate it. Or maybe could you tell me how much it was to restore this motorcycle exhaust? So I have a feeling, because I am wanting to restore an old car with a friend of mine! 😉 cheers 👍

Not in this case. Out of production. A pair of these is about £2k in comparable condition.
