Thank you for all your videos. It is really hard to find such good content here in youtube in english. I'm Brazilian, but for me english is easyer than spanish to understand. Your videos are encouraging me in the sport which is new to me. Thank you for doing that.

Very good video as always! This is a tricky situation and one I feel is one of the largest obstacles for new/intermediate players since it’s easier to learn to hit this kind of serve than to return it. So the game becomes imbalanced of you don’t master this with your group. Great tips!
@ThePadelSchool4 жыл бұрын
August Ejnarsson exactly! It’s much easier to serve there than it is to return it!

Thanks Sandy! Very nice food for thought right here. I play the B-side and right now I can almost always return the serve and have accepted that if the serve is very good, it is enough to just get the ball back into play. Even if the opponent gets an easy volley opportunity, sometimes they'll miss it and in padel the point is rarely over even when the opponent gets an easier ball. My standard return is a flat, medium paced shot back towards the server; it has the biggest margin for error and rarely gives the opponent an easy ball to end the point. On easier serves I vary this with a blistering two-handed backhand aimed right at the returner. Tomorrow is my first official match at my local club!
@ThePadelSchool4 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely right...it is more important to make them play, because even easy balls are not always possible to put away. The double hander is a great return if you can hit it well! If you're feeling confident you can also use the lob on the return too! Good luck in your first match!!

@@ThePadelSchool thanks! I tend to sometimes lob the easier serves but on difficult ones I find my lobs are too weak. Still loads of work to be done on racquet skills 🎾

Thanks for the great video! These tips are however almost exclusively for returning a serve with the forehand. Would be useful to also receive some extra tips for returning on the backhand side, which is where the most errors are made. The tip where you advise to ‘drop’ the racket head for example is a lot harder for the wrist on the backhand side.
@ThePadelSchool4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I should've moved between the sides, the only tip that doesn't apply would be the racket head drop, because like you say that is difficult to do on the backhand side...

This was a very good vid Sandy. Can you please give some advice on how to return the ball when you receive a drop ball in the corner without the ball bouncing against the glass? I very often come into this position during a match and sometimes it's very difficult to decide what to do.
@ThePadelSchool4 жыл бұрын
Jan Granaas thank! Is this from a serve? Or just a normal shot? One of the first things players need to learn is whether the trajectory and speed combined with the depth of the bounce should be taken before or after the glass. You also need to decide what is the best height to take the ball! What type of shot are you referring to?
@jangranaas44104 жыл бұрын
The Padel School This is during the play when the opponent is doing a high lob into your corner and the ball don’t bounce out from the back glass. It is difficult to get the racket behind the ball and it is difficult to hit the ball by using the back glass.

Hi Sandy. At 1:43 in this video you explain that if the ball is going to bounce off the back part of the side glass, you say that it's easier to take the ball before the glass. Then you show a clip where the player does that and gets jammed up against the glass for a bad return. Wouldn't it be best for this player to allow the ball space for hitting double glass before returning the ball, or does he really have time to make a proper return before the glass? Best regards
@ThePadelSchool3 жыл бұрын
Hey, yes, I was using that as an example of stepping laterally towards and taking it just as its about to contact. Normally you would want to step diagonally and hit before. But yes, in this case or if the person hits a fast, high bouncing serve you could allow it off both glasses. The higher the level the less you see the double glass with the return (as you do not see those serves)...hope that helps :)

one comment or potential video could be ball anticipation, I find myself going too forward on an opponents smash to try to get it off the wall towards the front of the court, but then the opponent cuts it and I am out of position. are they any cues that could help position myself better. when an opponents is going to hit overhead where should I be
@ThePadelSchool4 жыл бұрын
This is all about the visual cues and trying to judge the type of smash they will hit by looking at their body position. At higher levels players can disguise their shots really well, but often there are signs of what the player will hit.

What of it bounce on the black glass as well, or do you wanna take it before?
@ThePadelSchool4 жыл бұрын
If it bounces so high and fast that it rebounds off the back glass then you can take it after. If it is a good serve it is unlikely to bounce off the back glass.
