Just had my first lesson on Sunday and loved it. It has ALWAYS been my childhood dream to ride horses and care for them. However, I'm 65 going on 66 on March 25th. But with the will of the Lord Almighty, He will provide a way to learn the necessary skills I need. Love your tutorial and subscribed to your channel. God bless. In my first riding lesson kept holding the reigns kinda long and the excess reigns on my hands kept twisting. Another was the how to start the trot, that the rider has to stand up on /raise yourself up onto the stirrups and sit back on the saddle . Please advise I 'M A BEGINNER DON'T KNOW THE CONCEPT. I don't know how to drive but at least achieve this life long goal through God's Grace. Thank you and take.

I admire your faith. My dream is to ride horses aswell, but with a previous back surgery and the lack of money I don't think I will any time soon. I am only a teenager, so anything could happen between now and the future, but people like you remind me that horse riding is for any age, so thank you :) God bless.

I’ve been a sailing instructor, and have studied teaching too, so I know how to break things down to teach beginners and the riding school I went to at first did nothing of the sort, just plonked me on the oldest, most sleepy horse and just keep telling me I was doing it wrong 🤦🏻♀️ Thank you, thank you, thank you for your channel 🙏🏼🤗🤩 I’m already feeling far more confident about it all and am excited rather than anxious ☺️

I work at a Therapeutic Riding Center and we have to workout the horse. I'm trying to learn to ride so I can start to take over the job of Barn Manager. This video really helped me understand the basics of riding a horse in simple terms and helped me loose my fear of riding almost completely. I was worried about lack of control, but this seems simpler than I've been led to believe it is. I'm not saying horsemanship is easy by any means, but when the basics are taught in this way it really makes a difference.

To everyone who reads this: If you want to go easier on their backs as well as better for you to mount up, grip the saddle horn and the mane. It’s far better and much safer. From the moment you put your foot in the stirrup, never let go of the reins, keep them gathered so you have you’re mount’s head, but not so tight the animal can’t function. I’ve always hated seeing people grab both the horn and seat of the saddle. It needs to be the horn and the mane. Aside from that, pretty much everything she instructs is spot on.

Well, he DID anyway, and I found myself holding on for dear life! At what point does a horse realize he's got a Tourist onboard and starts to do what he wants.. and how can I fool the horse into thinking I know what I'm doing? (-:

Nice to know that after all of my years of riding, and never having a lesson I’ve been doing it right. Lol I’ve often wondered if I did a lot of riding in a former life because it seemed like I already knew how to do so much with horses, and all I ever wanted was to be with horses. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to actually own my own horses until I was an adult. From the time I could walk I would spend time with, and attempt to get on any horse I found. Lol

Or, six years into riding, you can have someone tell you that you need to turn with your OUTSIDE rein and your head will explode. There will be much confusion and some resistance until you see it is truly a better way XD Every single person I've spoken to in my lesson program originally learned the bicycle method of steering and had to re-learn when they got there. I had an old schoolmaster show me the light when I tried, and found that he was like a ballerina spinning in the place. His forehand was so light, it was like floating in a dream. I'd never made a turn like that in my life, even though I'd been riding (bicycle-style) for almost 10 years. I have been confused and frustrated since then, but I've never looked back. I vote we let the bicycle steering method die forever. Thanks for showing me the way, Mr. Miles! lol
