Sorry you missed St John. I think that's one of the most beautiful islands in the Caribbean, partly because it's 75% national park. You can anchor in Cruz Bay (the main town), Great Cruz Bay (there's a Westin Resort there), and Coral Bay (the more sleepy side where you must have lunch at Skinny Legs); and there are moorings at Maho Bay (most protected) and Salt Pond Bay, plus others. If you ever have a chance St John is a magical place. Love your videos! All the best.

Hello, I like and follow your vid. Great, really enjoyable. May I suggest few things, please? OK. here they are: please add interesting comments about your navigational aids, your charts on the iPad and elsewhere, your weather routing of any or weather sourcing, your anchoring equipment and techniques...what works well and what does not? I mean, we love to look at what you are doing but it might be more interesting for those of us who are planing to do the same and are anxious about the equipments and so forth. For example, is it safe too leave your dinghy tied to a dock and leave for a day or two? etc. Thanks a lot for any comments and enjoy//

It could be because you're watching from Germany. One of the songs has unfortunately been blocked there :( You can still see it if you change the VPN tunnel. We sailed directly from Skanör, Sweden, to Kiel. Then through the canal where we stopped for the night in Rendsburg and Brunnsbüttel. Then out to Cuxhaven :) Thanks for watching!

RAN Sailing I am watching, and enjoying VERY MUCH form London, Ontario, Canada. Here I am crew on a racing yacht on Lake Huron at Sarnia, I am also the Treasurer and Principal Race Officer at Fanshawe Yacht Club. We sail on a flood control reservoir. Not the waves of the open ocean, but lake levels can go up 6 m after thunderstorms or be dropped on short notice for facility repairs. VPN not an option for me.

RAN Sailing The Kiel Canal appears to have similar constraints as the Welland Canal in Ontario, which bypasses the approx 100 m drop of the famous Niagara Falls. Maximum cargo ships are about 200 ft, by 80 feet wide. No practical restriction on height of recreational vessels, though you have to schedule carefully with the Seaway. Cheers!!

Really like your videos, just started viewing your video's this week. A question regarding the US immigration; what or how do they define a registered entity in this context?
@RANSailing
@RANSailing 6 жыл бұрын
For example an airline company that flies to the U.S is a registered entity. So if you're not an American citizen and you'll come to the U.S on a private vessel you'll need a B1/B2 Visa.
@larsgardsvold4345
@larsgardsvold4345 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I do have B1/B2 and also C1/D (transit) visas, so covered up until 2027. I was wondering, because as I will retire as an airline pilot in two years, and sail my Dufour 43 S/Y Ho'oponopono, and the US Virgin islands, Puerto Rico and mainland US, are on my itinerary. PS Setter stor pris på videoene deres, seiler norsk flag her ut fra Barcelona.

Yes, normally you don't need a visa, but like we say in the video you need a visa if you're entering the country on a foreign non-registred entity like your private boat. Thanks for watching!
@NickLea
@NickLea 7 жыл бұрын
All Europeans require a visa if they are entering on their own yacht. The visa waiver scheme - the ESTA - only applies if you first enter on a scheduled passenger service eg airline or ferry. So, it is necessary to first enter on an airline or ferry. You will then be given a multi-entry stamp allowing you to enter and exit the USA multiple times for 90 days. Once you've got that stamp in your passport you can then enter in your own yacht without any problem. The US customs have stated that this is what people must do.
@sailingxtremeadventures542
@sailingxtremeadventures542 7 жыл бұрын
Andreas, correct me if I'm wrong but you need that stamp in your passport if your going in by your private boat and do not need it if arriving by a commercial plane or commercial boat even if you have an ESTA? Seems just another money making exercise against sailors who can quite happily sail up to a mooring bouy and go ashore?? ⛵️

Wind on Water unfortunately this isn't a new thing. Cruising in the US is one of the more difficult locales for foreign flagged vessels.
@TheUglyGnome
@TheUglyGnome 7 жыл бұрын
+shinybaldy Indeed it is. For example foreign yachts are required to contact Homeland Security every time they move from one "customs region" (whatever it is) to another. Sometimes that's moving from one marina to another in the same city! And still US cruisers continue to complain how "horrible" European Schengen area regulations are. If they only knew how things are in their own country ...
@shinybaldy
@shinybaldy 7 жыл бұрын
TheUglyGnome oh want to hear the worst part? Even for Americans, when they sail their federally documented boat from their home state into another state (say Washington to Caifornia), some states get over zealous if you stay too long and demand either a use tax or sales tax for the value of the boat. 🤣

Love your stuff !! Can't wait for my bride and me to be on the water by the end of this year. 😊 As to the $$$ for getting the USA stamp on your passport, $200 was not expensive at all. $0. Free. US citizens do not need a visa to go to Sweden, as it is part of the European Union. Also, Sweden is consistently rated ahead of the USA on all counts: health care, education, social programs, life expectancy, crime and safety. Look it up-- the US rates like 20 countries lower than Sweden in most quality of life listings.

Richard, I've crossed a large number of borders with my US passport and have never paid that much anywhere. They just finished saying $30 for a mooring ball was too much for their cruising budget and you're trying to argue that $200 is not expensive for them? Have a little compassion with your nationalistic fervour.

All great points! I've traveled the world and rarely ever paid, and if so a small token on my US passport and never worried about being kept away from the "bad guys". It's time to stop the bullshit. The 200 they paid went to somewhere we can't account for to do something we probably didn't want!
