I was so proud I was able to make bread for less than 50 cents per loaf. My friend laughed at me. She thought it was ridiculous 🙄. I offered to help her set up a food pantry. She refused. Another friend thinks I am strange because I do a cost breakdown of meals. I now pay bills one month ahead. Also do grocery shopping once monthly. I am trying to track all my money as you suggested. Am looking at my expenses from this time last year. I paid off a lot of debt in 2020. Working on the remaining. It is wonderful to find like minded individuals!

I ignore them - especially in my old age. My brother and his new wife (a few years ago) were aghast that we had an older drip style coffee pot LOL. My half sister and daughter visited a few years ago and my sister noticed that I still had a makeup vanity that I got from her for free when I was in my teens. I am now in my 60s and still use it. Just had to replace the stool seat once. Hubby's sister and husband visited a year ago and you could just see on their faces that we were not living the keeping up with the Jones's lifestyle. 😀 We are comfortable with our house paid off (in our 50s) and vehicles paid off (in our 50s). No debt is a wonderful life. Our mail is a PO box and we no longer have any animals so we can just shut the door and leave town at a moments notice. Not so much this year of course. Loving your videos. I know - LONG comment.

When my younger brother came to visit me a few years ago, he noticed that my television was from the 1990’s! He asked me why l hadn’t upgraded it. I said why should l when there’s nothing wrong with it! Sadly, this last month, I had to buy a new television. The one l had started to have too many issues then started turning itself off, refusing to turn back on! At least the old television lasted a long time; l’m grateful for that!

We were also asked why we had the old TVs! We replied that we weren’t replacing them until they died. We took some ribbing from a few people. We don’t have to run out to buy the latest and greatest which is why we can afford what we need which feels sooooo much better! 👍

I’ve never been a drinker, l don’t like the way any of it tastes. When l was younger, l did notice that people seemed to get annoyed when I would say that I didn’t drink; and would try to urge me to try other drinks, when l would say l didn’t like the taste. Those same people would get angry when I would say no thank you and stuck to soft drinks...Never did figure out what that was about!

Your comment on how to react when people don't understand your lifestyle choices in trying to not spend money is spot on. The girls that I work with are always commenting on my older vehicle. There's nothing wrong with my car. It looks new, it's got low mileage, it's economical and it's reliable. My perfect comeback to them when they say to me "I wouldn't drive an older car like yours" is "I wouldn't have your payments!!! And oh by the way, I paid cash for it!"

I have two neighbors that have given me a hard time about "air drying" my laundry! I do two loads a week, light and dark. These are my clothing and I choose to hang them inside my apartment to air dry. I do the sheets and towels once a month, and they, go into the dryer. One neighbor argued the point with me and she looked at me and said... "oh, your cheap". I so "no, I'm not cheap, I'm frugal". So my point also is that if I were using a clothesline, nobody would say anything about it. I save $250 a year by air drying my clothes. Each cycle, wash or dry is $1.25.

You guys are great and I SO appreciate your encouragement on being bold and authentic, especially when confronted by others who live outside of our "Frugal" community. We have been feeling the pressure recently to borrow some money from Family (SUCH a kind offer) in order to buy a bigger/better finished home, rather than the older, modernisation/some care needed homes that we want to live in. It took a lot of strength for me to reassert our views and reasons for buying this particular kind of home and how it ties in to a lifestyle we so enjoy living. We are blessed in Bangor as we have a walking trail that goes out over a bog and signs that tells you what animals you might see, also benches along the way to rest. Some signs that point out what we are looking at, types of wild flowers, bushes, trees, birds that we might see. All along the trail. We love it. Dogs are not alloud on the boardwalk. But are aloud on the trails and dog stations to pick up doggie do do bags. It's free to enjoy. Oh ya, a few picnic tables and men's and women's outhouse for emergencies. No air freshness, but tolet paper and wet wipe for hands.

I'm on a low buy/no buy and feel it's going well. My rules are 'low buy' for necessary food (for my meal plan), 'no buy' is make up, alcohol and toiletries, and 'spend' is fuel for my car, essential items for the dogs and utilities/existing DDs. I guess the fact that I've made my own rules really helps; i had only planned on doing this for January but it's gone so well that I'm going to extend it out to the whole year. I'm allowing myself a tiny treat at the end of each month (this month it's £7.50 on 5 x white wire storage bins from Asda my kitchen cabinets). I'm paid on the 27th and I'm really looking forward to doing my next budget. I've saved £305 from my salary this month (I work part time and have a low salary, but no mortgage or debts) and the cash from my lodger now goes directly into my savings account.

I am working on not needing to justify anything to anyone on how I choose to spend my hard earned money. Because people will always have a comment, in fact I broke ties with a friend because all she did was talk about other people’s money. I am way over 21, I earned my money legally, working hard for over 50 years. So if I choose to spend or not spend my money to their standards it’s not my business if they choose to worry about my money. People sometimes can be too nosy. I appreciate your recipes and tips, Emmy, and, yes, I will admit that I needed encouragement yesterday, so thank you. Also, your advice in a recent video to earmark a shelf in your refrigerator for leftovers is absolute genius! This morning, making soup from leftovers as I often do was so easy because they were all in one place. On spending, as my mom used to say when pressed on the subject, "I can afford it. I'm 'choosing' to spend my money somewhere else." My money...my choice...The important people in our lives understand that this is how my husband and I live, and, especially regarding our children, in a world full of voices that would influence them otherwise, we are trying to set an example for what being a good steward looks like. We have no long-term debt by choice, no mortgage or car payments, which required us to make some hard choices along the way, but I am truly thankful we took this path.

What a nice surprise to see you guys today. I refinanced my mortgage this afternoon, shaved 7 years off the loan by moving to 15 year and lowered mortgage interest percentage from 4,5 to 2.25. I have been saving to finally get my loan right side up. Didn’t touch emergency fund or money for house repairs. So relieved, can’t wait to sign the papers! Thanks for your pep talks! You are the Knute Rockne to folks working on our finances!

Hello, new subscriber here. Myself, I am in the lucky situation, that nobody opposes my savings-plans. That may be, though, because I told people, that I am saving up for a complete renovation of my flat and will save, where I can save. Halfway through this month though, I had to do a major food-stock-up. But I'm good in books and DVDs and everything else, except properWintershoes, but thatismy own fault.😁 Because of lockdown, here in Germany, it will beat least until mid-February, that I can buy some and then I have hopeof sales.. I like your Videos, well, the two I saw, but I assume, that I will like them all.

This is true.people always encourage wild, out of control spending, but.frugality?not so much.why you not out at all the stores?why you not spending every cent you have?why you worried about debt? Uh,because id rather be responsible and handle necessary items first and hold off on unnecessary items.

The chicken looks really good! I will definitely try it. I have people in my life who have pressured me at times to go and to do things that i dont want to spend money on. I always end up feeling uncomfortable or a little guilty if i dont give in and do things their way. I try to do what i believe is best and i realize others do not always understand. Not easy. Debbie, you must try to use your Instant Pot! Works great and saves electricity vs. cooking on a stove top. I cook chicken in bulk and then freeze for use in many recipes. Enjoy cooking a quantity of dried beans, then freezing them in meal-sized portions. IP is wonderful for soups and stews, fresh greens, PASTA and on and on. The IP is a perfect appliance for a frugal gal like you. Best regards from slightly-less-frigid Virginia.

Thanks for the great video. The chicken recipe sounds delicious. I don't usually discuss finances with others but it's really none of anyone's business what I buy or if I don't buy things. We do live in such a materialistic society that everywhere you go and even watching youtube, we are bombarded with ads to spend more money. It's just sad that people are sucked in by those things. Of course, there are things that we all need - like we all have to have clothes- but how many do we need? We have a washer and dryer so clothes can be washed easily. Usually, my husband and I will think long and hard about purchases. And then sometimes we decide it is not needed at all.
