Sometimes you do use a 3/4" bender for 1/2" conduit, when running 1/2 and 3/4 together it helps keeping the radius the same size so the bends will run together.

The end of the handle that comes with the bender is sized to fit over the conduit to help you make an adjustment sto the bend without crushing the open end of the conduit
