What is the difference between bokuwa and watashiwa?

They're different ways of referring to yourself. 僕 (boku) is used more by men and is semi-formal whereas 私 (watashi) is formal. Using it too often in casual settings can make you sound like a girl (since they use it and sometimes あたし/atashi) if you don't use formal/polite language in the rest of the sentence. Then there's 俺 (ore) which is very casual and primarily used by boys and men in informal speech with those of similar age to you, iirc.

@@sanjeev.rao3791 That sums it up quite well! Although I would say that there is a gray area around the use of 'boku' 僕 as I've seen it used in formal settings too. It's basically a way to make yourself appear younger. So you could use it with older people to create a sense of familiarity. And I have also seen girls occasionally use it in recent years. Not sure if it's like a linguistic statement. In my personal experience, I was using it until I was a teenager towards family members, then I switched to 'ore' 俺 with them. In a formal setting, I would try to avoid using a pronoun and, if I don't have a choice, switch between 'watashi' 私, 'kocchi' こっち, 'uchi' うち (and unconsciously 'jibun' 自分 with my family around the Kansai area)... 😅 If you want to be even more polite, you could use the very formal 'watakushi' written with the same kanji 私.

It's a way to finish sentences politely. And it would be the English equivalent of "it is".
