"When you say 'no' to things, we gain more space to say 'yes' to better things ". Wow..how true this is! . Thank you Jamila!

No is my default. I say No without guilt and I’ve learned to say it from a very young age, because people will steal your time and overload you with work or time consuming tasks either in your job or personal life. I listen politely and decline politely, but if they continue to pressure me then I just tell them the truth: ‘I’m not interested in participating in that (whatever) because I really just don’t want to do it.’ As some people don’t respond well to being told no, no matter how polite I say it.

The reason why I'm here because I'm afraid to say no especially to my relatives. I feel guilty but I'm thankful to God that I did say No to my Auntie.
@Jade-wb6fd10 ай бұрын
Now I finally know why men never took no as an answer and always tried to persuade me. It was because my voice went higher. Also, I'm a people pleaser unfortunately so that makes it even more difficult to say no. I will try saying no in a more firm way now. I hope it works

This is one of my favorite topic because I really need to learn how to say NO, thank you so much Jamila for taking the time to explain everything and giving examples how to say No in a polite way without being sound rude.
@antoinette472910 ай бұрын
You provided excellent examples of how to graciously decline. I usually say " I am sorry, but I have to decline." If the person pressures me or wants another date or time, then I say " I still have to decline. I have a lot on my plate and I do not want further stress so please accept this and please do not ask me again." It is true. We all have a lot on our plate. We all have stress. The invitation creates more stress and accepting it will overload us with stress, so no need to provide other reasons, as this is the actual truth for most of us, "I have a lot on my plate and cannot accept." Easy, peasy.

Thank you so much for this video Jamila!! In my opinion it's perfectly okay to not give a concrete explanation for why you said no and you can just say "I have other commitments" or "I have other plans" and not explain what it is. Or even a "I plan to stay in that night because I have a really hectic week". I think this is how we can draw boundaries and not appeal to people who want to push them!

Hi! I'm currently a 16 year old girl and I have problems with conversation skills. Before, I used to talk very loudly, especially when I was happy, excited, surprised, etc. It was so loud that if I went into a coffee shop and chatted with friends, everyone in the shop would look at me. I was complained that I was too childish and it made me very frustrated and worried. I started speaking smally, so smally that almost no one could hear me. And for some reason, my hearing ability also decreased. So I can't tell people what I want and I can't hear what others say. I wanted to say more loud, but I was afraid it would be too loud like in the past. This really upsets me because I have no friends and I feel lonely. I like the way you talk or hold the conversation so if possible, could you spare some time to help me solve this problem? I would really appreciate it if you could do that 🥹🥹

Quick question unrelated to this etiquette video but relevant nonetheless, in a scenario where a woman is at dinner with a jacket could be a fur jacket, leather jacket or a blazer, should she remove it if so where should she place it? Or should she keep it on. I know a coat is removed but what is the etiquette when it comes to smaller forms.
