Thank you so much. I just had meltdown!! I painted my ceiling in my ventd and I was trying to get them back…. Two hours later, a gallon of sweat and noodles for arms I about threw everything through the window.!! I had googled it before but thought I would give it one more try and I ran across this….. you have saved my life thank you!!

I used the 15ga .035 inch wire in the link from grainger, I rubber coated twice, drilled the holes about 1/2 inch from the edge, then drilled a second hole to bend and pass the wire back and turn it to attach it without glue. Worked very well! Thanks very much. Just like bathroom covers.

Thanks for a great video 😀. I used rubber bands on the wire instead of purchasing the liquid rubber. So far my vents are still in place. If they fall again I am gonna buy that liquid rubber.

Had the same issue but just use some thin wood shims on each side of the register and shoved it in. It hasn't moved in months.

(I purchased the magnetic register from home Depot, it was about $25 with taxes included.) I just did this and I hope it stays. It fell down once but I only put one piece of wood in the gapped area. Now I tried 2 pieces on each side like you suggested. Hopefully it stays up there eternally lol Btw, I think the plastic ceiling registers are just better. It's light weight and easier to clean

wow, works great, I bought 1.2mm wire sticks from amazon, then did as this video, but instead of paint I bought a heat shrink tube kit, and the 3/32 tubes work great and give the surface tension you need.

Why in the world are ceiling vents designed so stupidly in the first place? This is great solution, but why can't I just buy a vent with spring clamps in the first place? The problem is all over the internet. I see someone invented a magnetized plastic vent cover--great idea, but some in one size.

I agree with you 100%. The issue is manufacturing and distribution. I'm hoping to have some time this summer to look into it, but I figure I will need help to get it launched. Hopefully I can find someone to help me get it on store shelves.

Do you have a solution for metal registers?
@thewrighthandyman8139 Жыл бұрын
The bow springs work with a metal register, I tried one for a few months and it stayed in. In order to attach them, you can drill 2 holes and feed the wire in, bend it, and feed it out the second hole (weave it into the register). This should hold it in place.

So how much of the spring wire do you need? All I see is a roll of it
@thewrighthandyman8139 Жыл бұрын
I usually cut 8 inches of wire for each side. Once it is bent and installed, it should be long enough to hold, but not so long that it interferes with the bend in the ducting and pushes the vent out.

And when heat comes through, that glue will melt. Not good way to attach wire. I work with the stuff...and heat melts the glue.
@thewrighthandyman8139 Жыл бұрын
The heat coming from the vent isn't any where hot enough to melt the glue. A hot glue gun uses far more heat to melt the glue than what comes out of the vent. I've had several of these things in my ceiling for many months, and the glue never melted. What does happen is that sometimes the glue will detach from the vent, however the spring still works as it is still attached to the vent via the hole and the bent wire. Since I've had issues with the glue detaching, I have come up with several other methods of attaching the wire that do not require glue.
@chapstick_69 Жыл бұрын
@thewrighthandyman8139 what are the other methods of attaching the wire?
@thewrighthandyman8139 Жыл бұрын
@@chapstick_69 I've used a soldering iron to melt the wire into the plastic, that worked pretty well. Currently I use a slot and a hole to bend the wire to attach it without using glue. Works very well, and makes it easier to construct.
