Here's how to make a device that lets the user detect objects walls! Best of all the build is pretty easy and it can be done for under $20. The device consists of a helical antenna that is build for Wi-Fi frequencies. Wi-Fi passes through walls and this device can detect any wifi source such as the cellphones that everyone carries. So in theory anyone with a cellphone can be tracked through walls with this device.

Microwave frequencies have been used for DECADES to see thru walls. Security robots, e.g., back in the 80's could see a human's heart beating thru a wall. There are a lot of things, like magnetrons used in microwave ovens, that produce powerful microwave outputs, and there are means of tuning these to select frequencies that humans (water) reflect. I'd take a look at that for this application. Finding the highest frequency that will pass thru wall board (gypsum) and not thru water would be a goal for greatest sensitivity, range, and resolution. Today, terahertz imaging systems can probably do the job, and while pricy, could be an inspiration for next projects.

An improvement idea : try to use four coils or more along with accelerometer sensor and use some codes to make it collect full image the same way they take 360 pic's with normal cameras using the gyroscope sensor .

It'd be pretty sweet to build an array of these to create something like a 8x8 or even a 16x16 image. It'd be expensive, but you could also use just one sensor with more coils by hooking up the coils to a relay and timing the connections like an old CRT monitor.
@blahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa8442
@blahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa8442 Жыл бұрын
You don't need an array of antennas. You can just mount a single antenna on a motor that scans left-to-right and top-to-bottom. Just like a CRT monitor. Additionally, this CRT type scanning idea would receive an Analog image not Digital so theoretically you could achieve high resolution. In contrast, an array of antennas would be highly pixilated. So, just broadcast a chosen radio wave through the wall, pick up the reflected radio waves with your scanning antenna, and the process the image in software.

Definitely do Version 2, even to get it to display an image like that found in a thermal camera...like the Predator using Thermal Vision, would be epic. Perhaps instead of one coil, using an array of smaller coils for each to represent a "pixel" or using an alternate type of antenna that can do a higher resolution image? Or Version 2 could simply be a longer range version of Version 1 ? Interesting how science can almost make possible abilities that only comic book heroes can do.

Idea for wi-spy v2: maybe the copper wire coil could be telescopic for 1. Easy compact 2. Change the range of frequencies it could pick up(radio, phone, inferred, UV ) 3. Having more than one coil set to different thickness and lengths to change the view of the wi-spy. But just some thoughts I had while watching. Keep up the great vids I’ve been loving them

Build suggestion: how about an invisibility cloak? not like a green screen one where it only works in a video, but kind of like the concept from MI: ghost protocol, where there is a camera capturing what the area around you is supposed to look like in real time and projecting that onto the screen (in this case the cloak). the only idea I would have as to going about this would be is to build cameras on to the cloak viewing every angle and somehow getting it to come out as an image on the cloak. it might be easiest to start with a solid material in a cube shape, instead of an actual cloak to begin with? idk, your the one with a physics degree loll. Great vids btw

You should “buy” the seeker of an missile, they should work on band X and they have dozen of antennas receiving. Probably you could replicate that, but the cost will be higher. An array of patch antenna should give a better resolution especially for seeking and creating a rough image… great video!
