Hi! To answer the question about the ”traffic light”. The breathers function is to maintain crankcase vacuum. The yellow is a one way fibre disc, limiting the air flow direction caused by the piston going back and forth. It allows air to flow out of the crankcase but blocks the return flow, maintaining a vacuum in the crankcase. The partial vacuum must be maintained in the crankcase to prevent oil from beeing forced out of the engine at the piston rings, oil seals, breather plunger. There is a way to test the condition of the yellow disc. Let me know if there is a interest and I will write the instruction. Cheers from a briggs mech in Sweden.

Hi, l am currently servicing the car by on my Victa 160cc 2-stroke. Waiting on full kit to arrive by post. Bought her new 11 years ago. Great mower for steep country and long grass being a utility ( side thrower). I also run 4-stoke Briggs. Lots of mowers get shot out here at the by annual council clean ups so I am going to start a small business on the side. Thanks a lot for your great body of knowledge. Regards Pete.

I have a broken down 450 series that I don't want part with. So I have new oil, spark plug, governor springs, diaphragm, air filter, flywheel key, primer bulb and throttle cable ( yes, it's had its bad days, LOL!) alll on their way. I have never changed the oil in the 8 years that's I've had it, though I may have topped it up once? After watching this video, I'm keen to see how she runs once it's all put back together!! Appreciate the video, it really helps!

Hello. A great video and has shown me a lot of info and given me the ability to fix the mower myself. I have 1 issue though I cannot find the link for the governor springs on the internet, where can I get one of them from? Do you have a part number please. I have lost mine.

I need help. I got lawn mower out of trash and it fired up, I fixed the key and cleaned it. It starts but it gets really hot after 20seconds of running and the noise is a little bit weird. There might be a little too much oil. Not sure what to do. Any help apreciated.

How do you set the timing on these and governor arm.
@MowerMan2 жыл бұрын
It's a flat head engine so you cant set the valves without grinding. Governor flap takes care of itself. Set the ignition coil gap and make sure the springs are correct

This is a great video - thanks for filming! I've got one of these engines and it struggled to start after running for a while. And now it doesn't start at all. I noticed the cooling fins on the block were filthy so is potentially overheating. Took the spark out and can feel no compression whatsoever. I have another engine identical which I know runs and has compression . What do you think is the better idea - swap the whole engine out, or strip down the one that's not working, replacing gaskets etc? Cheers!

The blade was obviously not centred when you were trying to get it off as you’d already partly undone the engine from the mower body.

Sometimes the cheeky greedy lawnmower shops here in new zealand weld the blade boss and blade on to the motor they even weld around the blade bolt so u cant replace repair change or sharpen blades iv had afew mowers like that
