yeah this is the easy part. try taking the crank bolt off !!!!! or the cam actuator bolt off !!! make sure if you don't have an high impact gun you get yourself a honda crank tool to hold the pulley in place while you loosen this bolt. also get yourself a 2ft 1/2 extension with a 2 ft 1/2 breaker bar and hopefully maybe!! you might be able to loosen this nut !! I had to actually slip a solid steel bar over the breaker bar so there wasn't so much flex on the breaker bar and finally it came loose with a loud pop!! as for loosen the cam actuator bolt. grab yourself a 24mm long wrench to hold the cam while you use your breaker bar to loosen this nut. if you have a partner around I highly recommend they help you with this. if your car has a sway bar you can rest the wrench against it. don't even attempt this job if you don't have any of these tools or you will find yourself in a pickle without a car trying to go out and get the right parts for the job like I did !!!

I had to heat it up with hand held propane torch and take flywheel cover off under car to access torque converter bolts. By using a pry bar there to hold the crank I used 6 foot breaker bar to remove bolt. It came loose after heating it up. I began to think maybe it was left hand thread but it’s not.... it required a lot of force! Definitely a 2 person job unless you have a very strong impact as “general mechanic “ wrote. Wow, 3/4 inch yep I need one of those!

P.S. the cover I mentioned above is in between engine oil pan and transmission. It is fastened only with 2 10mm bolts. Thin metal shield-cover. Very easy to remove the metal access cover but requires taking off the entire engine plastic splash shield behind bumper cover and from side to side, in order to get to bottom of motor and transmission. There is a lot of plastic keeper snaps holding the splash shield. Hope this explanation helps someone. Good luck!

Hey general mechanic I wanna ask why my honda accord, marking line of camshaft sprocket did not match perfectly (little bit) after I replace new set timing chain include new auto tensioner? The dot and gold pain on the timing chain seat correctly on teeth camshaft sporcket. This happen when I rotate the crankshaft clockwise once. By the way thank you so much for inspire guide video you make. Hehehehe
@GeneralMechanicGA5 жыл бұрын
Ok so let me see if i get it right!? You did set time right but then when you turn the engine one revolution the two line marks did not align correctly? Remember the painted links will not align back where they started so the only recheck point you have after one revolution is TDC at crank and the two line marks on cam sprockets
@mohdzuzu15445 жыл бұрын
@@GeneralMechanicGA sorry I forget to say it before. After I see the mark is incorrect when I turn one revolution so I turn the crank counter clock wise back again the mark did not match correctly but just litlle bit maybe 1.5-2.5 mm dismactch

My issue is that my top two timing marks match up with the yellow links, but my bottom crank mark doesn't line up with the gold chain link, it's about 2 tooth off. However, I put the chain on and installed the tensioner, I cranked it one revolution and all the marks lined up. My question is, does it really matter if your gold chain links do not align, as long as everything aligns back to TDC?

Well imma tell you that for me both of camshafts align really good to place when installing new chain Not too much struggle to get them in place cause when setting the time they are pretty much on place and they stay there long enough for you to install the tensioner!
@shobud75616 жыл бұрын
I just finished doing a valve job on a 2008 accord with the 2.4 . The best way i found to keep the camshafts in perfect location is to insert the camshaft alignment pins , which you can purchase from Honda . Both camshafts have a small hole on the opposite end of the sprockets , and the number 5 camshaft cap / holder has the same size hole . I used 2 small Roll Pins that fit the holes really well . Once you get the pins installed then you can torque the cam caps to specs . With the pins installed both camshafts will be in the correct position and you can install the chain .... NOTE "!" After you install the chain & tensioner , remove the little pin frome the tensioner to release it , AND don't forget to remove the 2. camshaft holding pins "!"

General Mechanic Well ive cleared the code but it was the rocker arm actuator (vtc actuator) stuck on. However i lost nearly all my oil because the vtc filter bolt popped off while i was driving and it spent the spark plug seals. So ive cleaned it all up new alternator and battery cause the hot oil fried it. Cleaned the spark plug wells and the plugs didnt look too bad and didnt get a whole lot of oil on them. The marks looked off by a few teeth when i had the valve cover off. Would i just need to replace the chain and re time it and it'll work?

deflair lais It should work! This can wont vent any valves I had it happen to me on one car it turned way off time... and no vent valves Now on the code you have and the problem you are about to fix i think the root of your problem is going to be your whole spool valve ( vthec valve assemble) I would replace it before cranking it after timing chain replaced! I said this vases on other jobs i have done! Just this past week i fixed a 06 civic and 06 accord with same problem! Good luck

General Mechanic one question is normal after I set all the marks nice. When i rotate the engine to make sure everything is ok the tensioner is not maintaining the chain stretch is a used one
@GeneralMechanicGA6 жыл бұрын
Hey! Remember that tensioner works by oil pressure so if engine is not running it will not tens tight as it has to until the engine is running All you have to make sure of is that it is not going all the way back and letting the chain jump time!
@scientist1003 жыл бұрын
The reason you turn it clockwise is because the tensioner is on the opposite side. If you turn from the crankshaft which you should always do, then the pull is applied against the guide that doesnt have the tensioner so it doesnt move at all. If you turn it counter clockwise, then the tensioner is pushed on which causes the time to be off since the chain is technically stretched by the amount the tensioner is retracted back.
