I put a perch in the door of Fluffy's cage too. Rn it's the purple sanding perch u talked about there but soon I'm going to change it into the paper party perch when it arrives. 3:36 I'm pretty sure they are conures... Lol Woah, so much toys! I can imagine them living the life! Nice vid! I liked the little conure cuddle breaks in between hahaha and oddly the boys are awfully quiet lol

It's a great idea having a perch on the door I've found out. Does Fluffy like it? Thank you! They were, mostly busy playing and snacking!

@@TheParrotTeacher well he goes there sometimes, if I put him there then he will stay there and play with toys. But if he is hungry he will jump into his food bowl on the opposite side of the cage 🤣

Not usually no! Swings are usually only an issue if made from something unsafe or if they are something enclosed

@@TheParrotTeacher will do, I've already taken the bars out and got shredded newspaper in and today for the 1st time she's been down onto the bottom of her cage, so I'm hoping this is just the start of her being a foraging bird. Cheers David

@@GinnyAndBuds Sounds good! You can always pop foot toys down there and foraging treats etc to make it more fun!

David I noticed there aren’t any toys in the middle of the cage at top hanging down is there a reason for that? My conures love hanging upside down alot and play. Just wondering- thank you so very much for all the information ❤️🦜
@TheParrotTeacher2 жыл бұрын
Hey there, We do actually pop toys in that space, but we rotate them and keep changing it up. Having that blank space allows them to do mini flights if they want to or for us to just add in an extra toy when we swap things about! Pickles is similar, she constantly hangs upside down and plays :D

Did you have to modify your cage where the tray is in place instead of the bars ?
@TheParrotTeacher3 жыл бұрын
Hey there, For this cage no, as the metal runner was slightly warped! (I'd imagine if we wanted bars there would have been lots of swearing due to this not cheering!) This means the tray sits with minimal gap! Many cages come with a sliding slot for the tray and one just above for the bars. So in these situations you can just use the upper slider or prop up the tray. For the cockatiel's cage we use small bits of folded cardboard to prop up the corners and reduce the gap. However other people use all kinds of solutions such as wooden runners, small pegs etc etc.

@@TheParrotTeacher Thank you for the quick response, I like the idea of substrate instead of bars. Your video is the first I've seen that's done this so im certainly considering doing this myself.. By sanding perch you do mean calcium or crushed seashell perches right? Cause sandpaper perches destroy birds feet, they can also pick off the sand or glue and die from enough of that in their system.... Calling them sanding perches just makes it sound like sandpaper perch btw :(
@BirdNerdSophie3 жыл бұрын
Just saw this comment as I wasn't home when David was filming! They're called sanding perches on the shop websites which is why we call them that too so people can find them, but they are definitely the crushed seashell ones!
@TheParrotTeacher3 жыл бұрын
You should know us by now An! There is no way we would use glued on sand perches. Sadly that is the name that they are often called by, so it's one I have to use so people can actually find the right ones! Sandpaper perches and "sanding perches" are very different things and have very different meanings!
@angsfeatheredfriends3 жыл бұрын
@@TheParrotTeacher maybe it is an american thing, never heard of sanding perches here (I only know sandpaper perches, cuttlebone perches, seashell perches, and concrete perches). Sanding perches sounds like something you'd do to a dowel rod to make it smoother or something weird lol (guess working with power sanders just makes me think of things when someone says sanding lol). You wonky euros with your old english words :P I just call them nail trimming perches or nail filing perches.

It looks great, conure heaven!…really helpful video David 👍🏻 We keep saying we’d like a new bigger cage for our conure soon & she has a Liberta one of similar height but its slimmer, maybe that can be her night cage if we do upgrade to this one. Also I think that substrate option is a good idea too, I was only hesitant before in case it got ingested, but I’m probably being too paranoid! (We like those Y perches too!) 🦜
@TheParrotTeacher3 жыл бұрын
Hey there! Really glad it was useful! You could do it that way if you liked! Generally substrate won't be ingested, also if you use the right types the risk to your parrot is absolutely minimal! It's also worth keeping an eye on them, if they regularly chew it it's great. If they actively try to eat it it could be an issue (although not one we have seen ever ourselves or much with others)
