How to Set-up a Kid's Fishing Rod & Catch Fish! (Walmart Worms & Zebco Rods)

Hello, everyone! Today, we're doing something a little different than my usual fishing videos. I'm setting up some kids' fishing rod combos to catch bluegills. I've got 2 different Zebco combos that I'll rig up for float (bobber) fishing with worms & also review each combo. I'll go over exactly what you need to take a kid fishing including floats, weights, hooks, worms, knots, etc. Short rods like these are great for young kids because they are inexpensive (~$10), their short length makes them easy for kids to fish and these actually do work to catch fish. I love this Video and concept, it's great and I wish I saw it 4 years it ago ;) I would suggest though after about age 6 or 7 (or a year of fishing), going up one size of rod for kids. It's just WAY easier to land the fish with the longer rods, and that means less tears or frustration for little ones. The Dock Demon (red one) you showed is what we started at 4 years old, and we've used until half the summer at 6. Our issue was my little guy started having issues because after 2+ years you're not the same size, you finally know how to cast pretty well w/o help and being able to cast more places, is fun. It just so happens Zebco's next size up is also approx. $10 and that's about 1 1/2 ft. longer, also w/ inflation.

Any thoughts on use a barrel weight or slip weight down to a swivel with a few inches of line down to a hook? Or is my method just more complicated? I find some shore a barrel weight adds to the castability.

Sure, you can do that! I use tin split shots to balance out the float - so it's easy to add or subtract weight. But once you've got it dialed in with a barrel weight, it's the same every time - just need to remember what size worked last trip. Good luck!

buy a kiddy rod like he. bought look at the real don't buy one with a built in real look for a snack 33 real .play with the kids with the rods at home or at the park before you go so you know the combo works and the kids have so time with them before you go .

If the person is truly "new" to fishing too, I think he's doing it right. Start cheap, see if they enjoy fishing or not, don't go nuts until you KNOW they like it. Zebco's are plenty good to start.
