Although your rosy will happily use those wood hides, these snakes are not woodland animals. The planter and driftwood are fine but are useless to the rosy. Look at videos of rosies in the wild to see the usually rocky terrain with crevices and burrows. Might give you more rosy-specific ideas rather than the more corn-snake -like setup you have.

You should make a Rosy Boa set-up video! All the set-ups on KZbin are similar to this, but they use a couple of rocks on top of the bedding. I'm planning on getting a Rosy very soon. ❤️

@@basicbaroque I need to do that (a video) one day. I will confess that my rosy setups are crazy simple, because I have found they do best with that for some reason. I have seen some setups on youtube, and while most are probably usable, they still are not optimum. A rounded rock on top of aspen is not even close to anything a rosy would use in the wild. Rosy boas are one snake that has to be kept according to certain guidelines or trouble can follow. My guidelines are these: 1. Not too humid for too long. Easiest way to deal with this is to offer a water dish once a week for only 1-2 days if your ambient humidity is above 60%. Keep water dish out of cage while the snake is digesting. That easy, and it avoids problems. My coastal rosies can have water 24/7 w/o problem but I still do the once-a-week method. 2. Heated area at around 84-86 deg F when digesting, can be cooler when not full of food. That means the snake sees at least 82-84 deg on its body. Air temp means little, we need the snake's body to get warm. This means use of a heat pad or Arcadia deep heat projector or a ceramic heat emitter - something that heats objects first rather than the air. Unless you have a heated room, then keep the heated room at 82-83 and that will work. 3. Hide touches snake's back. I use plain old packing paper from Home Depot or any shipping store. The snake hides in and under the paper, the paper rests on the snakes back, and the heater heats through the paper. Works perfectly with any of the heaters mentioned, whether heating from below or above or entire room. 4. Wait for a poop before feeding again. Just a great rule of thumb for any boa species really. Avoids problems related to digestion if temps are not perfect. 5. I use paper rabbit bedding as substrate. The "natural" brown paper flakes. CareFresh is too dusty, I use Kaytee or All Living Things. Very light in weight, absorbs eliminated liquid and holds heat in the spaces. IMO it beats any other dry substrate out there for rosies except decomposed granite/soil mix, but decomposed granite is super heavy and not very applicable in plastic cages, OK for glass cages.

@@6strings735 All this is great information! I'll have to order the Kaytee bedding from Amazon Germany. I've been to several websites in Sweden and they don't sell it here (surprisingly). Do you think the ExoTerra Snake Bedding would work as a good substitute, if it's hard to find later? It says it has a high absorption rate (3:1) and fast drying.

Stephanie Putnam Yes, the eco terra snake bedding is ok. Fluff it up so that warm air can get trapped in the air spaces.

Thank you!! Where is your lights located tho? Are they above their water bowl?
@6strings735
@6strings735 5 жыл бұрын
For rosies, use ceramic heat emitter or a heat pad. No lights, they are not appropriate for this species.

fuba Suspend or have an LED plant grow light or a day spectrum light in the room if you want a light cycle for snakes like rosies that avoid direct light most of their lives. Having one over the cage is unnecessary, and many novices use lights that are too intense. These are not tortoises or bearded dragons, these are boas that stay mostly in the ground , not just on the ground.

When I put the day lamp on they both come out from burrowing and wrap around their little tree I have in their tank. I don’t have my lamp on top of the screen tho. I have it hanging up hovering about 3 inches above the screen. I do and always had a heating pad as well. I thought I was the only one who spoiled the S&@$ out of my snakes lol... Thanks!!!!
