This UeeVii CPE450 device allows you to create a long-distance (up to 3km) wireless Ethernet connection between two locations with 100Mbps speed. In this video, I describe the applications of such a device, including in a Starlink satellite internet situation, and how to easily set up the bridge. I also show how to access the management interface for more sophisticated network solutions. I was provided the kit for free in exchange for this review.

Best instructional on You-Tube! Still I'm not yet successful in bringing Starlink from my open field/small stable to my house 400 feet away and ringed with 100+ foot Fir trees, but will succeed! After 24 years tring every available internet supplier with a maximum of 6 mbps EVER the Starlink MUST succeed. I'm 74 now - out of time to muck around, and driving 20 miles to town for a decent view of Top Gun II in my Tesla is ridiculous.

Great guidance! Everything was pretty much pre-configured (channels matched) out of the box for me. I put a simple, inexpensive TP-Link wireless router at the remote end, as I'm connecting a somewhat remote building with wifi security cam, access for my phone, etc. The remote building is roughly 750' away. I'm showing what seems almost full signal signal indication on both ends, the upper most green LED signal not lit. About half of the 750' is obscured by the tops of some oak trees. A speed test at the remote end shows I'm getting about 7-8Mbs down and about 3-4Mbs up. The station end is a Starlink with roughly 225-250Mbs. I'd hoped for a better signal strength at the remote end, but it's enough to get the job done.

@DonJoyce
@DonJoyce 12 күн бұрын
Trees, particularly their leaves, contain a lot of water that can mess up radio waves. I used mine through about 200m of trees successfully, but it would not work through a metal roof. I think a km of trees is unlikely to be successful.

Hello! If I connect the receiving end to a wifi extender via Ethernet cable would the extender transmit a wifi signal?
@DonJoyce
@DonJoyce 10 ай бұрын
A wifi extender will only retransmit a wifi signal. A better device for your remote end is a wifi access point. It connects via ethernet cable to the remote end of your ethernet bridge device, then transmit a full wifi signal for use in that area.

Yes, you can plug a wireless router in at the far end, or set the far end up as an access point directly. You lose half the bandwidth if you do the AP mode, but that may be fine for an outbuilding.

I'm trying to use the remote antenna along with a very basic TP-Link wireless access point in a remote location with no power to run a wireless security camera. For my proof-of-concept, I just used a typical "battery generator" that has AC output, and ran both the AC adapters for the TP-link and the Ueevii power injector. HOWEVER, I'd like to see if I could go completely DC and skip the DC-AC inverters for much better battery life. The TP-Link will run on 12V DC, but I think the UeeVii requires 24V DC. If so, does the antenna have to be powered via the POE or could I get 24V DC to the antenna via the coax plug port on the antenna?

When I try to connect one of the Bridges to the POE adapter, the LED light on the POE adapter blinks and the Bridge PWR light also blinks. As a result, this Bridge is not turning on like it should. The other Bridge works fine -- the LED light is solid and the power is on. I double checked the ethernet cables and they're all fine. Plus, they're both connected to the same power outlet device. Any advice on how to fix this issue?

This is a fantastic video!! But, I still have a question. I am extending my Starlink home internet to a detached garage, where I have my home office. I was advised that I need to have a WiFi router in the detached. So, PoE adapter is plugged in in the garage and to the CPE (B Slave). Are you saying that if I run an Ethernet from the CPE direct to my computer that I don’t need the 2nd router? Or, does the CPE already give me the WiFi? I guess I’m trying to figure out what the purpose is for the 2nd router. Thanks in advance!
@DonJoyce

Not trying to direct people from this product but if you have the plan to try to add to an existing hybrid brand network to be used as a client to take wifi back to ethernet, then these 450's are not going to work from what we concluded here. Otherwise the configurations you mentioned in the video, they work fine for just be sure you stick with this brand if you plan on expanding your system in the future. Example - using unit B "slave" I was able to link it to my Netgear cable modem/router however there is not internet connection. The display on unit B is a lower case "o" not a zero. I assume this means it is linked but not to an "approved" master unit meaning a master unit that is not of this brand. These are not weather proof either, they dont have any IP ratings or seals or cable glands to keep moisture out thus metals will rust and corrode over time. and the plastic shell will yellow and become brittle due to solar radiation. Just something to keep in mind After reading various reviews and comments, these things seem to have an elevated failure rate, even the instruction mention rebooting it every 7 days or so if it is dead.. IDK how confident I should feel when a manufacturer knows their product is prone to failure after 7 days in service.. These bridges and AP's should be maintenance free for the most part. setup, install, finalize setup and forget until lightning hit it or it burns in a fire.

Thanks for your instructions. A couple of things with the unit I purchased (CPE-820). The "bridge" works as advertised although it took me some time to figure out the POE injector's LAN port did not work. Units worked fine with the POE injector connected to the 100M port and the switch/router on the 1000M port. I won't comment on the AP as it did not hold it's configs and being that I only want this as a bridge I really didn't spend a lot of time troubleshooting the AP. Bridge works as expected AP may or may not work as expected POE injector LAN port did not work for me

Hello! I am trying to get wifi in a metal barn about 100yds from my house. I hooked up exactly how you described, have all green lights except the Lan1 is still flashing green, I am under the assumption that they are not paired. Do you have any idea why they won't pair, I tried different channels, changed master and slave settings? Planning to hook up a wireless router up inside barn using ethernet cables to connect bridge. I hope you can shed some light on my situation, thank you!
@DonJoyce
@DonJoyce Жыл бұрын
If the channel numbers change from flashing to solid (like the number 3 in my demo), then they are paired. That's the key step for sure. I *think* if the LAN1 light is flashing, that means you do not have a connection from your home router to the A-unit. Check your cable...and at the very least unplug it and plug it in again. If all else fails, there is a factory reset function so you can start from scratch. Unfortunately you have to connect up a laptop as described in the second half of my video to find the reset function on the admin user interface. Hope that helps!

Hi Don. I have an Echo mesh system. Once I hooked up the CPE450 I started having issues with the Echo Wifi. Some of our devices worked and others did not. I figured out that the 10.0.4.. IP address that we needed was being replaced with the 168.... from the CPE. I'm not very good at this stuff. Do you have a solution for this?
@DonJoyce
@DonJoyce 4 ай бұрын
As I understand it, the CPE device acts as a bridge, not a router. As such, IP addresses are retained (and must be unique) across the network. Could your problem be that you are using a router at the remote end of the CPE bridge? If so, you will need to reconfigure that router into bridge mode. Google is your friend for that.

Weird. A bit difficult to debug from your description, but here are a few things to try: power cycle both units...hey, every IT guy will tell you to do that, so why not! Next, make sure you have a known good ethernet cable from your router or modem to a port on unit A (and make sure the switch on the unit is set to A!). Check with your phone to see if you see a wifi signal from unit A on it's own. (I can't remember if you SHOULD ... but it's worth a check. On the B unit, make sure the switch is set to B. Again make sure you are using a known good cable to connect to your laptop (I'd leave the second router out of the network until you have the laptop working). Hope that helps.

I have tried to set up the bridge at least 5 times - sometimes I connect A to my router upstairs and then I tried to connect A to the Internet modem directly because I thought maybe having the router in between was wrong. I have been using both cables in the POE and the bridge but your video shows using only one or the other ....I can not get LAN 2 to light up! B is on the gate at the front of the property (I have trees) with a dual-band wifi router. I originally bought light bulb cameras that only work on 2.4G but I could not get a connection. Sent those back to Amazon and just got dual-band light bulb cameras. Downloaded the Yi loT app to my Google Phone but it will not let me "add device" the app refuses to work ...kind of like it's frozen...the + sign will not do anything. I am so frustrated I want to give up on the whole bridge to gate to router to camera. What am I doing wrong?

Sorry to hear you are having so much trouble. I recommend you pull your gear back and start from the beginning. First get your two bridge units talking to each other when they are in the same room where you can see the indicators on both of them at once. Use the POE ports. Once that is working, connect 'A' to your house router's ethernet port. Then connect something (perhaps a laptop) to the far end B unit. Once you have it figured out in one spot, move the units to their final locations. This will simplify your debugging. Good luck.

That is certainly weird. If use that DC power option at 4:40 so won't have need of POV adapter at all. If I'm right then it solves the problem for my remote slave unit where AC outlet is not available. Hi Clay. Not really...I would start with a 'best guess'. If you have someone at each end, you could have each person slowly adjust the direction, while the person on the other end checks the signal strength LEDs. They do the same thing in the other direction. That would be the best procedure. Good luck!

I would try it inside (perhaps at a window) first. It should work ok. But if not, I suggest you mount it outside and run an ethernet cable through the wall to your shop router. I did that and it worked great. (OK, in my case, the 'home' end had the router inside, but at the 'remote' end, the whole kit was in a window. Hello Don! Thanks for the great video. Made this process much less daunting for a luddite like me. Luddite question: So I connect the master to my router using Cat 5 and then try to position the master somewhere so that it is in direct site of the slave unit? Does the slave unit just need to be replugged in at its new location to work, once originally configured? I am trying to get a wifi signal in my guesthouse which is 400 feet from the main house. Do I put the slave unit in the guesthouse or at a midway point? Thank you so much for any guidance! I realize I am asking a lot. lol
@DonJoyce
@DonJoyce Жыл бұрын
Sounds fancy...LOL! You should consider the two CPE devices together to be providing the same function as a really long piece of ethernet cable. So you connect the master CPE to your router in the house, and the slave unit in your guest house. You should then connect an access point or a second wifi router in your guest house. And yes, once you have the two units configured and happily talking in the same room, you can then just unplug the slave unit and position it in the guest house.

Hi Brent! Your set-up sounds pretty straightforward, and you should not need to manually configure the IP address. That said, there are so many things that could be "off" (including simple stuff like bad cables!), it's really hard to diagnose. I would start with plugging a laptop into the remote end to see if it is seeing the internet. If so, it's a setting on your modem/router that needs tweaking (like setting it to passthrough/bridge mode).

Excellent mate, thank you for the reply. For anyone else following , for my case as Don said… all I had to do was hard reset my modem and ensure I plugged each section in sequence with time between each item for allowing configuration. That is, setup starlink, allow connections and configuration. Install sending unit to starlink. Allow config. Install receiving unit, allow config. Install modem to PoE injector, allow config…. There is no need to put starlink in bridging mode as I was advised. I like using the starlink router in location 1. Remaining task to find out, all my security cameras are 2.4Ghz, I have the starlink on “split” allowing 2.4/5.ghz at the starlink end, but in the receiving end I can’t seem to connect them, as if only the 5ghz band is being sent?

It looked like you plug the ethernet injector into the higher capacity lan on the bridge and use the 100m connector for your internet side. With a Starlink setup of (hopefully) a higher than 100 mbps speed or another high speed connection wouldn't it be counterproductive to do that?
@DonJoyce

Hi Ken. The main use-case for a unit like this is to provide internet to a fairly remote outbuilding, presumably where you don't need the full potential bandwidth of Starlink. Unless that outbuilding is your man-cave with a few 8K TVs, you're probably fine with the limitation of 100 mb/s. And in the case where you are extending the main line into your network, presumably you would only do this in some extreme environment where you can't mount your dish near your main network.

When you are into the admin menu, choose Access Point for the slave end and choose appropriate settings. It isn't easy, and frankly I think it took me three tries (with factory resets in between!) to get it to work. It's impossible for me to debug this without more details please don't send them! :-) ), but one thing strikes me: your second router (ie, the remote one) should be set to bridge/switch mode....ie, disable routing entirely.

Can you talk about configure access point ?
@DonJoyce
@DonJoyce 5 ай бұрын
I discuss it a bit at the end of the video, but to be honest, I didn't have success setting that up. Instead, used the regular bridge mode and attached an old router to the far end. I set it to pass-through mode and used it's wifi capability as an access point.

My units A - B button isnt working. Cant switch to B mode.

@DonJoyce 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Casey! Well, that's not good, but fortunately you can override the switch setting from within the software interface. I didn't cover that option in the video, but once you are connected, you'll see it if you hunt around a bit. Obviously more complicated to do it this way, but at least all is not lost. I assume you can't return the units for some reason.

Hi Don, great and easy to understand video for a tech dunce like me. I'm thinking of installing a bridge to my second house on the property, about 200 feet away, but would like wifi internet in the house and also a camera, blink or similar, connected to the controller (sync module) in my first house. Hope that is understandable...... the camera would be wireless, so would use the new wifi connection provided by the bridge and presumably another router, but how would it 'speak' to the sync module in the first house?.... Or will I need two separate Blink systems (or something similar)?....Thanks in Advance....From Spain..... Glenn

Hi Glenn. The main thing to keep in mind in your network design is that you want your blink cameras and blink sync module (which I have BTW), on the same LAN. That means you do NOT want a router at your second house because it will divide your LAN unless you can put it in pass through mode. It would be better to have a simple ethernet switch as the far end (in case you want extra wired ports....and you will) and put an Access Point at that far end. I hope that helps!

I successfully did this. You connect with a laptop as described in the video,to the far end node. Select AP mode and off you go.
