After I watched your vid I had a couple separate sales, two plush animals from the same buyer. eBay combined them automatically for printing the shipping label. Each would have been First Class rate, but the two together were a little over one pound. eBay also automatically switched it to the new Ground Advantage, which, in this case, would have been a dollar or so more than the same weight for Priority, which I would normally have used for anything over a pound. However, I can cut part of the box flaps off and make this 15.9 ounces total, so when I changed the weight on the "ship it" page it reverted to just $6.60, Ground Advantage, same as what First Class would have been. On plush I almost always use free shipping, so this order for two went for almost the same cost as one. You mentioned shipping golf clubs and bats. I have shipped bats, and won't mess with them anymore. I also hate shipping board games, even though I have the USPS Priority boxes for them. The weight is often more cost than the game. I still have several in my "death pile" to list, and some I will just part them out without the box. Today I listed a small lot of new Hot Wheels that I got when my Kroger store here closed a couple years ago. I also have a BUNCH of real nice name brand clothes from Goodwill I got on half off a couple years ago; the ones I have got listed sell, but I hate doing clothes listings anymore, lol. If you were doing calculated shipping on your light items then yes that is what it would do. I just do flat on first class because I don't like figuring out boxed weights on small items in advance.

Thanks for the video Paige. Very informative. I learned something today. I always thought that the addition cost I have set up on my policy was across all listing. Now I know it’s only for a multi quantity auction. That explains why I never get buyers buying multiple items. Lol. Time to fix that. Also, the tip on the default policy would have prevented me from selling a 7lbs. Item yesterday with free First Class shipping. Of course it went from NJ to OR. Why EBay would let me put the weight and dimensions in and accept free First Class shipping I’ll never know. Anyway, I’ll be more careful next time. Thanks again.

I was surprised how many Sellers do not know how to setup shipping policies. Same Sellers will be yelling how they have no shipping options on their listings after the 30 day grace period. Same Sellers probably don’t do any math on what their profit will be after fees.

Also would shoes just go under the Priority under 10 policy? Ty so much. It's so hard getting good information out here.

Poly bag clothes I would put in my "First class or lightweight" policy. Shoes I would put into calculated priority, as shoes going across town are a very different price than shoes going to the opposite coast.

Im thinking of increasing my postage. I undercharge but now i think i need to increase it. Im tempted to do free postage but since i also have best offer I'll end up getting nothing for my items. Im really trying to encourage multi buys but it is difficult.

Do you find Priority Mail is cheaper under 10 pounds? UPS is almost always cheaper for me once I hit 3 pounds or more, even when considering the cost of the box. Odd.

I switch a lot of those priority to UPS. I just prefer to make sure I NEVER lose money on shipping a heavy item.

I didn't know about the shipping discounts policy. Since the ground advantage change, it seems like some of the calculated costs that ebay charges buyers are way higher than they used to be, so I'm going to look into that and just adding a small handling charge to cover fees. Does it show the buyer what's shipping and what's handling or is it combined into one shipping cost?

I am a no returns seller. I largely don't sell things that are algorithm dependent and I certainly don't want to attract customers who care about return policies.

@@madmax8620 No, they open the return anyway. I accept it. I might go slow on accepting it if it is ridiculous and they still have to send it back to get refunded. Half of them don't send it back.

@@madmax8620 The more something has a very specific name and is likely to have someone looking for it specifically then the less dependent it is on the ebay algorithm. If you want an Dungeon's and Dragons Immortals Boxed set that is exactly what you are searching for and there will be a small number to choose from. However if you want a nike shirt there are 1,350,000 results and most of them are completely different and it is impossible to compare all the identical ones side by side.

Quick question, Mr. Flipper: I've heard other sellers go on about how adding the Priority option affects your listing with regards to how it shows up in the ebay algorithm and therefore affects is visiblity. Any clue about this, or is it perhaps outdated info?

I try to avoid items that are algorithm based and do not offer "options" for shipping as I have found that options reduce my profits and customers who pick faster shipping methods tend to be problem customers.

ALSO...I have 1000s of comics that need to go, individual and bulk, and you said you charge 9.99 shipping for a comic, right?... isn't that a bit high in the buyers' minds?? Every shipping method I listed there has tracking built in. When I sell ONE comic it is the 5.99 first class rate. When I sell 26 comics in a lot it is the 9.99 flat rate envelope. Larger lots will have calculated shipping. I dislike the comic category because most are worthless and half the sellers are cheating media mail and that is hard to compete against.

Also my post office informed me that it cost an extra $5(around) to add tracking to anything , or, and 2.00 just to have a slip that said i sent it only. This was in regards to first class postage, like if I just wanted to sent a single pokemon card in an envelope, then it would cost 5 + postage to have it tracked...I felt that info was incorrect.

None of the shipping you do should have anything to do with any of the people at the counter at the post office. It should all be done directly from ebay or directly from pirateship. Ebay has tracked first class envelopes at 63 cents.
