6:14 Can the EVF display and the LCD rear display be programmed to be independent with one another? i.e. to have the EVF not to show image review, but the LCD rear display to show image review. Such a feature would emulate a DSLR with OVF.

8:09 The EOS R continuous shot speed drops from 8fps down to only 5fps when the Servo AF is activated. That's a huge drop in shooting speed. At only 5 frames per second, it is not very suitable for use as an action camera.
@danuneken2 жыл бұрын
EOS R is not a good sports camera. Also the EVF is useless in full sunshine.
@msbrownbeast2 жыл бұрын
@@danuneken But isn't it (EVF) a common issue with other mirrorless cameras too? My biggest issue with the EVF (at least on the EOS R) is that for action shots that require panning, the EVF can't seem to be able to keep up with moving action.
@danuneken2 жыл бұрын
@@msbrownbeast I suppose it is, but this is the first and only EVF camera that I have ever used. I've shot two soccer matches with the EOS R and the mark 1 5D (!). The 5D came out much better that the R.

@Rob Sambles I'm not a sports photographer but have been asked to photograph my son's team's football match (11 yr olds) for their club. I have an RP and Canon 70-200 f4L which i will be using. I know the RP only shoots at about 4/5 fps but all i need is a few in focus shots of the kids on the ball for their parents. I believe the focus on the RP is similar to the R and was originally thinking of using the face+ tracking setting until i watched your video. Would there be a big difference in the single point vs face+ tracking settings for accuracy? Thanks
@RobSambles3 жыл бұрын
I'm sure you'll be fine with the RP. Consider using single point focus (set to centre) with AI servo mode

Loved this video! I have a question. I just got an EOS R Canon and have been trying to set it up in M mode. Am attempting to practice with sports photography. All of my photos in continuous mode only take about 4 photos in different exposures. I would like to have it like it is in auto mode as far as being able to hold the button down and take a lot of photos. Is there a way to fix this that you know of in M mode?

dont forget you also have the control ring you can control. Such as, shutter button not pressed adjusts x, half shutter press adjusts y. Neat little tool! I love it. I have mine set up for focus without shutter press, and iso with half shutter press. I love it.

Hi Rob, I just bought a EOS R (firmware 1.8) and noticed the viewfinder freezes a bit after photo taken. Is it a setting thing? Does your R and R6 have the same issue? I tried hooting with card and without card, it's same. Here is a link to show the issue. I got a Canon EOS R RF24-105mm F4-7.1 IS STM Lens and I tried setting the shutter speed to about 1000 (shooting basketball games indoors / school gyms) and I found that I needed to set the iso pretty high to get a good brightness (5000 iso). the aperture setting was flashing at these settings at 7.1f .. which I figured it must mean the aperture needed to be set lower than that but the lens would not allow it? Regardless.. even at these settings, with a monopod the pictures came out blurry and grainy. IS it safe to say the lens is to be blamed here? is the default lens in the kit not adequate for indoor sports shooting ? perhaps I need a lens that has a higher aperture range?
@mihir1857 Жыл бұрын
Yeah at f 7 you won't get very good pictures. That's why it's a "kit lens". For better results I'd consider a 24-105 f4 or a 24-70 f 2.8 or a 70-200 f 2.8. Any of those lenses will get you those proper "professional" pictures with a good depth of field and allow you to set your ISO lower & ramp up your shutter speed. Hope this helps

Can you explain why continuous focus being enabled? I noticed this setting and it’s not clear why one would set this, especially if back focus is set up. Maybe I’m confused about something?
@RobSambles4 жыл бұрын
It basically just keeps the camera focusing. If you're tracking effectively in Servo mode there's actually little benefit I would imagine
@fintanmctiernan82844 жыл бұрын
I turn the continuous af setting off as I found it works against you when you use ai servo. I get a better in focus hit rate when it’s off. Hope that helps.
@jmich51234 жыл бұрын
Fintan McTiernan thanks! That does help. I’m surprised it interferes though. You’d think if I’m servo mode and not timed out it would supersede... but we’re talking about firmware here so anything is possible. My lenses seem to focus very fast, I can see trying this with non native lens who’s AF might be crippled a bit by same said firmware.
@fintanmctiernan82844 жыл бұрын
J Mich51 No problem, you’re very welcome. I find the AF on the R fantastic (except for birds in flight) either with RF or EF lenses. I’m really looking forward to getting the R5, though as the R has a lot of limitations but the image quality is just fantastic out of it.

Hi Rob, I found your video and found it really interesting to get a good grasp of the best settings for shooting sport with the Eos R. I got puzzled by one thing though: you have obviously an EF lens mounted there on your Eos R (the EF 24-70 f/2.8 if I'm right?), how did you manage to have the High Speed continuous burst mode enabled?? Do you have the adapter RF to EF with the control ring or the basic adapter RF to EF? Because I can't set my (basic adapter + EF 24-70 lens) to the High speed continuous burst it shows me a message that I can't access this mode with the lens mounted on the camera... 🤔 Thanks a lot for your help 😉👍
@RobSambles4 жыл бұрын
Hey man - that should work fine for you. DM me on Instagram and I'll try to help. A screen shot would help
@JAYK35264 жыл бұрын
@@RobSambles thanks for your help Rob. We figured out the solution to this problem! If some people in the same case would be wondering about the solution to this problem: If you're already in Autofocus mode with Ai Servo on and not able to get the high speed burst, DISABLE the Dual Pixel mode and you'll unlock access to the high speed continuous burst function with 5fps in AI Servo, and 8fps in One Shot. You won't be able to get the high speed display though because it doesn't work with EF lenses (not essential function), it only seems compatible wit RF lenses because more info is able to comsme through thanks to this new mount port and additional connectors. Hope it will help someone someday! 😀

I just sold my backup R5 body and rebought 2 EOS R bodies on refurb for $1250. reason for this is ONE thing. The r5 is unbelievable in every single way except the rendering of the images. None of the editing software available has good profiles for the R5 colors and if you shoot portraits or people like I do, the rendering is really unfaltering. It's more like a Nikon or Sony rendering than a canon. The images from the Eos R are light years more flattering in every way and the smaller file size is a lot easier to deal with. That being said, I have another r5 for sale if u still want it lol.
