Why such a long leader? Is 8’ below the surface the strike zone?

Is there a name for this rig? Also what's really the purpose of the bobber? Isn't steelhead in deeper waters during warmer months? Thanks

It would be nice to see a start to finish on how you did that.

I see that you guys were catching steelhead in the fall. I am working outside of Kewaunee WI and would love to experience catching some steelheads. You mention a flip. Can you go into greater detail and what type of river outlet you fish and give some pointers on what to look for. Thanks and great videos!

Any river really when the water rolls over so takes a dive usually 70ish to 40s or 50s I go out. Ik the wisconsin side is a bit different bc you guys usually always have cold water but this drastic change of temp causes all the baitfish (alewives) to come into our piers. So I'm sure if on Wisconsin side u have a bait u have fish around

Would you use that set up right now? I’m just learning how to fish and wanting to fish off the pier in Holland

What do you recommend using for bait on this rig to target Kings and coho instead of shrimp like you do for steelhead??
@foreverpride8444 Жыл бұрын
For early kings use alewives

What size hook are you using for this rig? I am very new to steelhead fishing.

size 8 hooks seems to work good for steelhead

New to steelhead. What size slip bobber works best? I have everything else but that. Thanks

I don't think it matters seen a few ppl with videos with this setup and they all had different size floats and all caught fish.

Do you tie on a bobber stopper? Or just leave it free? Curious as to how you'll know you're hooked up

What if your sinker gets snagged and breaks off? I would tie a swivel below my float and my lead dropper to that.
@sunnyyang78802 жыл бұрын
Put a bobber stop on before you put sinker so your rig don't slide off.

What kind of shrimp you using? Full body cooked shrimp?
@hdhejehwkaje65423 ай бұрын
Ive seen some people recommend cooked because the red color of it might help attract fish

So I guess I don’t understand if the bobber pushes the leader to the surface does the bait hang around the surface if so is that where the fish are hanging out, by the surface
@OneRoundDown Жыл бұрын
Fishing off the piers your depth will generally be @ 15-30', if you're running an 8' leader your bait will be in the upper 1/3 of the water column and easily seen by the incoming salmon/steelhead. Using spawn sacs works good too.

If I'm using this rig for king or coho salmon what do you recommend me using as bait or attach lure to the rig
@nicholaslafleur97884 жыл бұрын
Mystic kenyny normally for Kings and coho I use just a regular bottom rig with your weight on your main line with alewives if you can catch them.

So i tried the rig today. The problem i faced when casting was that the leader line with the bait on would drop very close to me while the main goes really far. The main line slips through the swivel, and the leader doesn’t travel with the weight. Is that normal?

Just have to learn how to cast this set up.
@OneRoundDown Жыл бұрын
Put a bobber stop and 4mm bead on the mainline followed by barrel swivel slip float and weight. Run the bobber stop about 25' up your mainline tighten and trim it close so it goes thru the guides easily. Now when you cast the leader gets stopped from running back to the pole. If you find that the float gets taken under still run the stop another 10' up the line. Bobber stop, bead, barrel swivel, slip float, pyramid sinker. Don't forget the bead most important part of the set-up
