He is right about going to Manual on Canon camera. I am using Canon 1dx and Videomic Pro Stereo. To make it work I went to Normal (not high pass filter) and +20 -> Inside the Canon I wnet to manual and brought the recording level all the way down to zero. Then I moved the audio to 4 (moved it from the left to the right 4 spots) The recorded sound level is a bit low - just a touch.. and FCP X fixes it. No hisss and sounds like a G3 Wireless Sennheiser. Incredible. His video helped me get started.

Glad you kept this video up. I am an old veteran with an old EOS 500D and thinking about moving to a 550D, mainly because of the "Mic Input". Glad you did the demo of the Rode mic. Being an old sound geek, I was looking for a good mike to go with the 550D. I'm totally familiar with Rode products, but wanted quality, but not too expensive mic for simple video production. Good job and thank you!

Your overloading the mic and its clipping.. That crackling is the audio clipping. Move it further away.

I've been making videos for quite some years now and I've had this microphone for a while now, and my audio had always been a little off. Now thanks to you I don't have to mess around with my editing software anymore! There are many videos on how to setup this microphone for Canon cameras and yours is by far, the best and easiest! Cheers and thank you so much!

@JoeJacksonJr6 жыл бұрын
I can not say for sure on your 200D. That camera is fairly dated. But to get the option to control the audio on current cameras, you also need to be in one of the Manual modes, or Semi-Manual. Like M, Av or Tv.. None of the other modes will let you have the option to adjust your input volume. Hope this helps. :-)

Good day sir, I got Canon 650D but my MIC is RODE MIC GO which is no options/buttons to select. Can I still use the same settings with your or shall I go with AUTO or still manual?
@JoeJacksonJr8 жыл бұрын
The Video Mic Go does not have built in pre-amp. So this tutorial isnt meant for that microphone. If would say to plug up the mic and watch the volume indicator listed and manually adjust it until it looks like its picking up well, but not peaking to high.. Hope this helps. :-)
@chillbisaya59478 жыл бұрын

Hey man, just got this mic. I work on a farm and sometimes work in tractors you would say I should have it on the "hi-pass" setting more often than not yeah?
@JoeJacksonJr6 жыл бұрын
Depends on how deep the rumble is.. Just test it out and see if it helps. Its normally of heavy wind rumble.. But also do not forget a deadcat will help a ton outdoors.. Hope this helps.
@TomPembertonFarmLife6 жыл бұрын
Joe Jackson - Photography & Gaming ill give it ago but might have to look at a dead cat, it's on my hero 6 as the audio is shocking
@JoeJacksonJr6 жыл бұрын
Yea deadcat is essential for any outdoor work. Even the slightest breeze will rumble and sound like a hurricane without a deadcat.

Thanks, mate. Good video. What settings do you recommend for a conference - high pass filter on or off?
@JoeJacksonJr7 жыл бұрын
High Pass always off unless your outdoors during heavy wind with no dead cat. Always set your volume to where normal speaking is between -14 and -12db. That way if you get clapping or sneezing it does not clip the audio and distort it.

Thank you for the how to i really appreciate it. I was also wondering what do you think the best distance from the mic to the actor should be? I read somewhere its around four feet.
@JoeJacksonJr8 жыл бұрын
+Vicman 4ft is the max IMHO. The closer the deeper and more rich the vocals will sound. Also the closer the person talking, the more you can turn down the mic gain which will reduce how much background noise you will pick up.
@jacktaylor76964 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video dude! Just a bit unsure as to why we put the stock on manual, isn't the mic doing all the work?
@JoeJacksonJr4 жыл бұрын
Have to put the camera on manual or it will constantly bring the gain up so high that the audio constantly clips and distorts. Keeping it around -12db will ensure you have enough headroom for any loud noises or gust of wind.

Hi! I am having trouble setting my Rode Videomic Go microphone onto my Canon Rebel T6i. The microphone works but I am having a hard time getting the perfect sound settings for a vlogging style. At arms length I sound muffled/quiet ,and at a close range I sound too loud. Im not sure if you have made a video helping people with the same problem but I was just wondering if you had any advice. Thanks!
@JoeJacksonJr8 жыл бұрын
Hey Hector, if you set your camera up just like shown in my video the sound will be just about perfect. If its a little low at times and then a little high at times. This is normally fixed with audio compression in post. That way it brings up the volume when needed and lower the volume also to keep the volume more consistent. Hope this helps.

Which cable to I need to plug in my røde ntg3 to my DSLR canon 80D
@JoeJacksonJr8 жыл бұрын
Well they make XLR to 3.5mm jack cables. Which your mic has a XLR jack and the 80D uses a 3.5mm jack. However the issue is that the 3.5mm jack can not provide phantom power to your microphone which requires 48volts. That said they also make powered XLR preamps that will power the mic and then let you input that directly into the camera. But they can go for about $200 USD. Like this one: amzn.to/2h5DmGi
