I saw a old newsreel and it was showing wives how to repurpose their husbands old clothes. It showed how to cut down the clothes. How to make a tailored ladies jacket from hubby's old jacket or reuse the clothes for your sons. One suit of a grown up male can make several outfits for the children depending on the size of the husband and child's age and size They even showed how to turn the scraps into slippers and a little clutch purse.

In case you haven’t started yet, try making a toile/mock-up first, so you can make your mistakes on something that isn’t your nice expensive fabric ;) it will also help you get the fit right.

There seems to be semi-transparent pattern paper you can buy if you have any vintage patterns, you can trace your size onto the paper and cut it out, to preserve the OG pattern :)

If anyone is wanting to try sewing a vintage pattern but feel bad about cutting into it, you can buy translucent pattern paper that allows you to trace the original pattern onto the paper and cut that out instead.

I just found your channel and I love it! My mom taught me basics of sewing as a young girl and I remember sewing an apron once. But I am now in my 30s and barely remember anything. I want to make a vintage Christmas tree skirt and got fabric, thread etc. but I feel paryalized. Any tips for a newbie?
@SageLilleyman4 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much! I can recommend watching some basic sewing videos on KZbin. And if you feel really confused, you can get some scrap fabric and just have a go at sewing a straight line and curved line on that first. Refresh your memory with how the machine works, loading the bobbin and threading the machine. There are tons of videos on YT to help with that! And for making the tree skirt, I would say measure the rough width around the trunk and then draw that circle out on your fabric and then make a bigger circle (to extend where you want the skirt to end). And don’t forget to leave one side of the circle open so you can actually put it around the base! I don’t know if this helped, but feel free to ask more questions if you are still stuck! Xx

Thank you so much! Oh yay I'm so glad to hear you decided to make a pair for yourself! 💕 Don't worry that's not an awkward question at all! I didn't have to do any adjusting to the crotch area, but if you are worried about that I would make a mock-up with a cheap fabric just incase you need to adjust the pattern before using your final material! I hope that helps xx
