Nice, clear instruction for doing a v-neck tee-shirt. Thank you! I successfully made one after watching your video, however I opted to make a more narrow opening for the v, so I surmised that I should use a steeper angle than 45 degrees at the v. It worked! I’m very pleased.

I love that you showcased a cover machine! I don't see that at all in tutorials and I primarily sew with knits and use a twin needle. I love the finish much more than a zig zag stitch. Soon I'll have one!

You can, but it can be tricky to get into the point of the V with a serger.

You'd just add the width of the band to the length to do a crossover style.

I find that when I put the sleeve under, the feed-dogs help me ease the sleeve fabric into the armhole. :)

Because a single needle sewing machine can pivot at the point of the V. I may go back and serge necklines after, but I find it easier to sew V necks with a sewing machine.

Thank you for video. I was hoping to see an up close camera angle when you pinned and sewed v-neck. I'm a complete novice at this. Forgive my question, but are you sewing band to the right side of the shirt and flipping it inside when complete or the opposite?!? I can't tell from your video, nor anyone else's for that matter. You sew it so that the seam allowances end up inside the shirt.

How wide did you cut the strip for your neckband? It looked to be about 2” wide, which with a 1/2” seam allowance, would leave a 1” band.

This one has a pattern piece, so I don't remember the measurements. A 2 inch wide piece folded in half is 1 inch, then take the 1/2 seam allowance off of that and you'd have 1/2 inch finished width.

I'm curious about the raw edges on the V. Were they not coverstitched or just left out to fray?

Knit fabrics don’t fray like wovens.

@@Mellysews Maybe fray was the wrong term. I just thought the shirt is so otherwise perfect; ie your seam finishes on the hem and sleeves are done, why would you leave a raw edged neckline? It' looks gorgeous btw. Well done!!

@@montyollie Again, because it doesn't fray, the edges don't need to be finished. Adding some other technique to the raw edges wouldn't contribute anything beside aesthetics in the best case and might overwork the knit fabric and ruin the project in the worst case.

You can always try it both ways and stick with whichever method you prefer.

Although I do appreciate a handcrafted t, how in the world could I justify all that time and effort when I can get t's for $5 on sale. I cannot compete with that price point when comparing the supplies and time it would cost me to make it handmade. :o( - anyway thank you for another great tutorial.

I agree Melissa, you can get cheap t shirts all day long, but that's exactly what you get, cheap. I have made t shirts and have bought "inexpensive" t shirts, and I always get compliments on my made shirts, because I put a little extra interesting detail. By the way, I have the Janome Cover Pro 2000cpx, Baby Lock Imagine serger and Husqvarna Viking Sapphire 960q sewing machine and I love them all. I sew a lot of knits and the cover stitch machine is invaluable!! Love your videos!

You might want to try threading the ends on a hand sewing needle and using it to pull them to the other side.
