Nice!!! Your teaching style is A-1!!! You explain ALL of the steps, and you don’t zoom through your tutorials without silly music and pointing to things. It’s nice to see videos without the “tiktok/Instagram” type editing. Thank you!!!!

Thanks this will help me restyle some dresses I got from the thrift store where the bottom half fits but not the top, so I’m gonna cut them in half and put a band on the top of the skirt portion!😊

Wow, tricks of the trade! Glad I found you. I have an expensive pair of Nike sports underwear that had elastic that stretched badly over time. Now you gave me the missing way to attach replacement elastic so I can get more use out of this garment. Thanks! Great tutorial.

I sewed a pair of pants like this a few years ago and just guessed at how to attach the elastic. Wish I would have had this video back then. I've been following you for a long time now. You've shared so many great sewing tips and ideas! There's a wonderful variety that would include something for everyone and every project. Can't thank you enough for all of these videos. You have definitely helped me to improve my sewing and given me many ideas for new projects. So nice to see you have some awesome sponsors. I wish you continued success and hope you get back at least as much as you give. Thank you!

I just upcycled a (once favorite) exercise tights and they look better without the bulk! I had to remove the elastic that deteriorated badly (which took longer than the actual sewing) and replaced it with a soft, 2" wide elastic that is even comfier than the previous thin elastic that dug on my waist, plus I didn't have to rebuild or add a waistband. Win! Win! Thank you for this super valuable tutorial--I can look for more bottoms to upcycle :)

I've just discovered your videos! I just completed a skirt with an exposed elastic waistband, and it was so easy b/c of your clear instructions! After many years away from the sewing machine, and loaning it to someone and never getting it back, I have just purchased a new simple sewing machine and loving it! Years ago, I only made simple skirts and dresses, and a few home items, but nothing advanced. Recently, when searching for tutorials for help, I found you! Thanks so much for being a good teacher, having quality videos that I can see and understand, and for making a level of help for free!! Now, do you have any tutorials for making doorstops from fabric? I've found several online, but the instructions are not clear for me. Thanks again!!

is it mandatory to do the "zig zag" method when attaching the elastic? i do not have a sewing machine, so if i do a regular stitch will it not work? thank u!
@laurarobbins33604 жыл бұрын
I think if you use the regular stitch it won't allow for any stretch in the elastic, it'll just tear the stitches.

My sewing machine is a 1956 Singer lightweight 222. It has many features, but not cross stitch. I have hand sewn, with button hole stitch, the raw edge of my garment. Can I not sew the wide elastic to the top edge of the front of the material, and then sew again at the fold please?

Will this work using a 1” elastic as well? Or would it look funny? I can’t find this wide elastic. Where did you buy yours?
@ProfessorPincushion5 жыл бұрын
There's no rule that it can't work with 1" fabric although it's up to you on whether you like how it looks. I got mine at JoAnn's. It's in the same section as the elastic but on the very bottom shelf. You can also purchase it online.

If the stitch is sewn while the fabric/elastic is at their maximum, the stitch is never stretched, only compressed, right? So, a zigzag or stretch stitch isn't required.

I have two comments. 1) if you are not a seasoned seamstress like myself pay close attention when buying elastic. I had no idea there was actually a ‘waistline elastic’. 2). Practice this method on a scrap... my first try was not good at all! Don’t do as I did. I tried to scrimp on 1.5” elastic, didn’t work, so had to rip it all out. Needless to say I am pretty upset right now.

Do you have a video for how to attach this to a bodice?
@ProfessorPincushion5 жыл бұрын
We don't, but I imagine it would be a similar process. Obviously, the bottom of the bodice needs to be large enough to slip over the bustline of a person. I haven't seen too many shirts with a wide elastic at the bottom. Another option is sewing a narrow casing at the bottom of the hemline and then slipping elastic into the casing. It just depends on the style you want to go for.
