You are my favorite quilt maker / instructor. Your videos are excellent and explain in easy to follow instructions. You provide the what to-do, and what to watch out for problems a quilter may encounter along the way. I always look forward to your videos! I am a rookie machine quilter, but, long time seamstress. I completed my first quilting project the other day - a pieced, and machine quilted and bound table runner. I love the method of marking the corner of the quilt at the end as well as 1/4 away from the end when binding a quilt corner. That tip makes a huge difference in precisely sewing that corner binding. Thank you again for what you do for this "quilting friend".

Excellent tutorial, as usual. My hands don't work so well anymore, so instead of hand stitching the corners in place, I glue them with School Glue and pin or clip them in place with quilting clips. Then I let the glue dry or iron it dry. I also prefer to machine stitch the binding to the front of the quilt and glue it to the back. Then I stitch the binding down from the front using a decorative stitch that catches the front edge and the back edge of the binding. Yes, it probably takes more time to do it this way, but I can get the quilt bound and finished.

Leah, this was a great tutorial! I never thought about using purchased binding. Also I had not seen the method you used when joining the binding ends. I will have to try this. My results are the same, but the technique is different. Yours looks easier. Thanks!

Nice tutorial. I have sewn my binding on, as I have not done much hand sewing. I also have used a serger to trim the quilt before binding, this ads more thread on the edges, less fraying. And on a quilt I used a decorative stitch to bind the edge.

Great tip! I've been tempted to use my serger too. The edges can get so messy!

@@LeahDay Do give it a try. It is especially nice on larger quilts, cut and bind edges all at once, before putting on the binding.

I have tried machine binding and was not successful. However I did the method of stitch in the ditch to catch the back. It is more of a "blind" method. I have seen this method of finishing from the front. I may give it a try. I have seen some use a decorative stitch, which may make an interesting finish. Thanks for your clear and concise directions.

@@LeahDay I actually tried it yesterday on a couple of flag wall hanging size projects. It worked quite well. I think I will stick with traditional binding for quilts. My sewing skills are not as great as some. But I will use this method for smaller projects. Thanks for your great tutorial.
