The catch stitch, also called the herringbone stitch, is used to secure a folded edge of fabric to a base layer or the foundation of a garment, such as a hem. This can also be used to apply bias binding. The physicality of this stitch allows for movement, which makes this stitch perfect for using on material with stretch, either knits or elastane fiber content.
