Important to "Repeat the angle" and be sure to do an equal # of passes on both sides.

Great video....but what about the inexpensive Lansky rod system....that comes with 4 rods in a wooden base? Is that good for sharpening recurves?
@NeevesKnives4 жыл бұрын
Im not sure about that system, im sure it is, depending on the kind of rods they are, if your doing a full sharpening its best to start with a low grit, so if it has that then id say yes

I bought a Tangram Rumble that is finally dull enough to need a sharpening. So the steeper the re-curve the narrower the stone?
@NeevesKnives4 жыл бұрын
Yes and no, as long as theres no space under the edge then its fine, round stones and tri angle stones work the best for intense recurve, technically even the corner of a stone works good on recurves as long as they are not chippy, so yes for the most part

Use the corner of the stone could cause a chip in the recurve or slice into the stone.

I’m convinced you could be in the middle of a zombie apocalypse and put out an emergency distress z-tube video and it would say “You just need some paper towel rolls, an old oil filter and some wind shield wipers…just watch your angle and move it back and forth…and back and forth.”
@jimsheldonswe7846 Жыл бұрын
Is it just my old eyes but doesn’t seem to be much of a recurve on those blades?

a half inch stone is just going to make a smaller gap. a flat stone is flat

There are 100s of knife sharpening videos on KZbin and yet none of them seem to address either geometry, or quality control (accuracy and precision). There also seems to be a complete lack of precision techniques/equipment available. The closest seems to be a Lansky style fixed angle system. I am so surprised that the 'knife community' seems to have completely overlooked these fundamentals. At the end of the day, there will be a basic machining solution to sharpening knives. So anyone that wants to train their inner samurai can use whet stones and strops by hand and convince themselves their artisanal edge is better than the guy using the machine, and the rest of us can put a precise sharp edge on a useful tool and get on with real life...

QUESTION OF THE DAY: why buy an expensive knive when you can buy a cheap one?
@NeevesKnives4 жыл бұрын
Warranty, also materials, more expensive at certain times means its better quality, not always but at times you get what you pay for, but one of the biggest is fit finish and take down, the ones that cost a bit more can be easily maintained and taken apart and put back together, also the steel is better quality. Theres many reasons but i think its better to have examples because sometimes the budget knife is the better choice also context matters, what you need it for and how often it will be used, exc..
