Thanks, Lori! I'm glad I came across this video. That's a great idea for making the boxes shorter. I'll keep that in mind the next time I ship a painting. I use Uline boxes as well (16x12" and 12x12"). It's great that they come in many sizes, but you get a large quantity and living in an apartment can make it tough storing them. Though I manage to store them on top of wood shelves in my studio (2nd bedroom). So with your idea I'll be able to order a size that'll fit most paintings and save space. Thanks again!

Hello Lori! You are definitely a wealth of knowledge! I really enjoy watching your videos and I've gained a lot of knowledge regarding having an business of Art and art making. I would like to see more of your art making process and definitely more about you know the cost incurred in having an art business. I myself and chronically ill but I am an artist but I'm a beginner well not really I've been an artist for 52 years but I'm just starting to get into producing more of a portfolio and getting my art out there and maybe selling some. It's really tough doing everything myself I also have a KZbin channel and a lot of my energy right now is put towards that when maybe I should be putting more energy toward making the art. Yes I know but it's really tough being chronically ill and also I had a lot of trauma in my life so trying to live with the two of those and trying to make an art career can be very challenging. The worst part about it is that I'm sick so much of the time and I suffer from depression and anxiety disorder along with a whole host of other health problems, some serious, some are not. What about the center you should put plexiglass on it to cover the center of the painting from being punctured in the middle by another object
@lorimirabelliabstractartist Жыл бұрын
That's the risk I take...I wouldn't want the unnecessary cost and use of plastic to ship a painting. Rarely does a painting get damage and if it does I cover the cost.
@vonaldautterback88313 жыл бұрын
So the sides are well protected, which is great, but bubble wrap around the painting does nothing if the box is pierced in the middle where the actual painting is. Just one more simple step - cut a flat piece of cardboard to fit the inside of the painting, for real protection, then add the cardboard sides and tape. Bubble wrap is not even needed unless it's to fill up extra space so the work doesn't move around inside the box, but if you cut the box to fit tight, it's not necessary.

Blessed Be U n ME !!!
@lorimirabelliabstractartist3 жыл бұрын
You are so welcome! if you are using the flexible modeling paste Liquitex, no it won't crack if you roll it. Don't roll it really tight though. Golden brand does not have a specific type that says flexible and that's because their paste (in my opinion) is superior, so it won't crack and can be used on canvas.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us...very helpful! I'm curious, do you use a special tape that sticks to the glassine?

My pleasure ! And nope just regular packing taping works perfectly

Ah, packaging. The bane to my artist’s existence. Lori...how do you ship your BIG stretched paintings? I’ve never used a crate. Have you? Thoughts? I bought some telescoping boxes from U-line...packaged my 40” x40” paintings flat...put them in a box....and then was like...OMG these are heavy and awkward to carry. How’s a courier going to manage? Otherwise, yes i ship my large paintings in a U-line tube. My clients have no issue stretching at their destination. I love painting on panel too. So... wondering about crates. If i have to go that route... dear gawd...i’d rather just hand over my work to a professional shipping packager. Packaging takes forever for me. Thanks for your KZbins. Just found you. I live in Cambridge, ON.

haha packaging is the absolutely worst more so for the bigs one. I pretty much do what I do in this video only like you say box heavy boxes from Uline and a larger size. Yep they weigh about 17-25 pounds once they are packaged but the carriers seem to be fine with it. If I can unstretch and roll for shipping I'm a happy artist. .

Wow this is awesome! Thanks so much for sharing 😊 but I must ask.... the edge protectors only seem to cover one side of the painting. Is it not important to cover the back side edges?
@lorimirabelliabstractartist3 жыл бұрын
It’s about protecting the frame so that it doesn’t snap in shipping. The heavy duty cardboard is protective for the canvases.

Very interested to see how my paintings will come packed! Also to hear what you say about sending canvas unstreched. I was curiously going to ask u about that. I had a picture off Betty Krause/Franks. And it saved a load of money doing it like that. I have a local guy who finds restretching rather a novel break from his conventional framing! In due course if the money appears {!!} i will email you and ask about commissions. I was very struck by that last commission { hot colours and grafitti}. Best R

Hi Robert, I nearly panicked that your paintings haven't arrived yet, but I looked up the tracking number and see that they were detained in customs for a bit. They should be arriving shortly. Yes haha you got a sneak peek into how I wrap them. Oh, that's great you own a Betty Frank. She is such a lovely person, a great artist, and business woman. Yes of course whenever are ready for a commissioned piece you let me know. Yes, the Grafitti was a hit!! It was delivered to the clients today, hopefully, they will send a photo once they have had a chance to hang it. Best, Lori

How do you package your large (48"x60") un-stretched canvases?
@lorimirabelliabstractartist3 жыл бұрын
Rolled in a tube or a long square box. If it's just one painting then I make sure to add one of corner protectors so that the box doesn't get bent.

Hi Lori, thank you so much for all of this valuable information. I'm wondering if you'd mind sharing the shipping broker you use? No worries if you're not comfortable sharing, Its just so intimidating when googling, so many options and not really sure where to start. I'm shipping from the Toronto area as well. Thanks!

Another amazingly helpful video! I live in Mexico and I am a bit confused about what shipping delivery service would be the best to ship outside my country. You mentioned a broker, how do you go about finding one and how much of an expense that is? Thank you again!
@lorimirabelliabstractartist3 жыл бұрын
hmmmm It would be hard to be to speak on how to ship from Mexico. Shipping it expensive. You could google shipping broker and or company where you are from and give them a call and see what they say. but I would think you would have UPS and DHL as well there.

Thanks for sharing your expertise. 👍 Normally, if you were to ship your artwork without a frame, what sort of percentage discount do you offer your clients? [now that it costs less to ship]
@lorimirabelliabstractartist3 жыл бұрын
I don't give a percentage discount I just reduce as to what I think it would cost to have it restretched. That's usually discussed with the client.
