For your water you might wanna look into a device people put into chicken waterreservoirs to prevent them from freezing . They use very little power and will probably keep it just above freezing temperatures.

I’m thinking about ripping out the westy water tank so I can use Jerry cans under the sink. Much simpler setup, less water but less to freeze and way more manageable with insulation

Maybe try to agitate the water surface w like an aquarium bubbler. Idk how cold it gets there's so maybe agitation is not a viable solution for your temps. Cool VW.

For van travel, we swear by using vinegar/water 50:50 for cleaning utensils, countertops, etc Saves a ton of water and the mild acid cleans everything right up/degreases a $1-2 bottle of vinegar at Walmart lasts easily a couple months

When I was 27 I bought a new 30 foot Catalina sailing yacht and moved aboard it on the Columbia River in Portland, OR. I used a plastic 6.6 gallon jerry can to fill up with water where I worked and then filled my boat's water tank from the inside during the winter. In warmer weather I used a hose from the faucet on the docks. That worked out fine for me. I usually showered at my folks place. I used electric coffee pot hot water to shave and wash my face daily before work. The boat did have pressure water and a 5 gallon water heater so I could shower on board using limited water if I wanted. The water tank on the boat was 25 gallons.

Hey there Sebastian, Jefferson here again with the two Vanagons (and 🌎 first A8L Avant) that are not yet out on the roads but definitely living vicariously through your adventures with your beloved machine. ❄️🖤🇺🇸 If you are familiar with the GREASE CAR waste vegetable oil VWO kits they have a copper coil running through the TIG welded aluminum auxiliary tank so once the thick grease reaches 160 degrees Fahrenheit a solenoid can can switched over for their TDI engine to run off that fuel. I am wondering if you can do the same with a copper coil placed just adjacent your tank on either side or below with an electric or manual valve so you can shut it off during the summer? You can tie in the copper coil to your cooling system and have 🔥HOT🔥 G12 pink stuff keep you precious water from freezing. Otherwise what if you just add more ducting to your little diesel heater that will direct a small portion of warm air towards your water tank (I have two of those heaters new in boxes as well😅) Those are my ideas thus far for your situation. I know how it sucks to have to fill such a massive volume tank from such a small spigot as my home's water softener is down and the girls in my family rely on me to fill a 2 gallon tank thrice a week from a nearby water softener company that offers free 24/7 reverse osmosis treated and filtered water 💦 for our town 🌊. Thanks so much for the videos, while watching them I am about pumped to get my silver beast running but really hate to work on it outside at 18 degrees and 2 hours away in Ohio. STAY WARM MY FRIEND. 🦾

when Im on the road in my Westfalia I use one of them cheap plastic garden sprayers you can buy at any Home Depot. I like the 2.5 gal size. You put a kettle of hot water inside and then more cold water. It has a hand pressure pump on top and you just pump air pressure into the unit. I removed the plastic wand and installed a kitchen sink sprayer with five feet of hose but you could just use it as it comes from the store.

Wondering what you might get as feedback to resolve water issues..?? Seasonally, the large capacity tank and your SHURflo set-up is a great little system and a well thought out part of the Westfalia's, but.. despite the many heating options out there for staying warm (inside the van), shy of bringing your water source/container inside with you (at work..?) to keep it from freezing; as you said in your video....could be a long winter. Good luck managing that unique challenge in your VW .!! 😊
@Sebastianstonum
@Sebastianstonum 15 күн бұрын
If the westy tank was easily removable I would try insulating the wall behind it but right now I don’t think there’s anything between the tank and wall. I know there isn’t much under it. Definitely no insulation which is why it’s the first to freeze.

@@Sebastianstonum Good point and great comments already with differing 'tank heaters', which as you've replied require/use energy. Though my 82' Westy diesel is in storage (here in Wisconsin), I'm familiar with freezing and as a heads up, that SHURflo connection/check valve (if you used it), which allows a city water connection....it freezes and breaks..!! I learned (the hard way) to blow the line from the faucet to the tank as my first outing one spring having only drained the tank; my turning the faucet on for my first coffee... flooded the cabinet below the sink. 😏 Just a heads up once things thaw out and you attempt the faucet again. 👍
