I like to do whatever I can learn how to do and have any interest in learning. I also have an interest in singing, but not to be a professional singer. God bless my wonderful vocal coaches over the years who allow me to still sing decades later. Thanks as always for sharing. 🎉❤

Rajiv 1) You are amazing to share these personal things with us and to help us learn and grow via that sharing. And it's heartfelt and it's lovely and it's joyful and it's amazing. Your teacher and the fine gentlemen Evan. The composer were very gracious and teacher has a lovely voice, but more than that I am very impressed by her teaching skills. 2) when I was in my very early twenties I lived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and I had always sung. In fact, I was a very, very good singer who grew up singing in a church and I was the loudest and the bestest shall I say, And I decided when I was a waitress thinking about $20 a day, to spend $20 a week on singing lessons from two of my patrons who were a pianist and a voice teacher. I was doing very well, And my husband at the time after I went to try out for the Opera at Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh, explicitly told me that I would not be singing anymore. I would not be taking lessons and that was that because he was a wife beater and he meant what he said and I'm going to say that he got his point through to me. So I stopped. And at age 63 - I still don't sing. I sing a little bit in church but not very much. I really don't want anyone to hear me. Because I'm still hiding from what happened because of abuse. And so I saw this come on today and I love you to pieces and I gave it a thumbs up before I even watched it afterwards. I wish I could have given it a hundred more. This is precious and brilliant and doing something just for you is amazing and you've been teaching me this for about 2 and 1/2 months now. That's when I found you on the " KZbin" ❤. So I watched your lovely video alone in my living room because I live alone, and I said to myself, " well now it's about time to start singing again." Now I'm in West Virginia and I don't think I'm going to find a singing teacher here, but that's okay. I remember my singing lessons very well. What I hope is that you see my comment and understand the impacts you have on people with your gift of giving yourself to us and showing us how what are really simple. Things are the most important things in life. Thank you, Rajiv. Much love to you. You are the person I most wish that I could give a big squishy hug to. You're such a handsome, sweet young man. And you are a renaissance man to the Bone. PS. I also used to hand sew and I saw your apron video just yesterday, and that convinced me to go back to hand sewing.❤❤❤❤❤

I cried reading your reply. I am so happy you are working on getting joy back in your life. There is a good voice teacher called on YT, Madeleine Harvey, whose videos you might use to brush up. I hope you get to sing: join a choir, join Sweet Adeline’s, or some local singing groups. My Mom escaped a horribly abusive relationship and spent the rest of her life pursuing those parts of her she had to push deep down. I wish you happier days, singing or sewing or whatever you enjoy.

Ah! This is so lovely to see! When my students sing from a place of deep joy, they honour the music, the text, the composer and me! Being a singing teacher is HARD - sometimes I feel more like a therapist than a voice teacher. But when a student sings straight from their heart, no matter how technically proficient, something mysterious and magical happens. If everyone in the world sang together, our hatred and greed would turn to love and generosity. I will stand by that statement until my deathbed - upon which I will be singing Richard Strauss, Mozart, Puccini, Poulenc, Schubert, Britten……. 😊

I felt the same way …. I didn’t want to be a professional singer or ever even have an audience. I just have always loved the way singing feels in my body. I would watch/listen to great singers and think how fun it must be to be able to manipulate the voice like that and really let go and soar. Some people like to play sports, I like to sing. It’s been so gratifying to make progress and find “my” voice and have this whole new instrument to play with. Another thing I love about learning HOW to sing properly is that when you learn techniques, your ear is more sensitive to them and you can hear more nuance in what the singer your listening to is doing with their voice. You get more out of the music you already love. It’s really cool. What a fantastic teacher. Really fun to watch this. Thank you all for sharing with us 😊

Rajiv, oddly enough, about 20 years ago I took private singing lessons with an opera singer as I wanted to sing correctly since I singing was a stress reliever that I did daily. I listen to and sing R&B and Gospel. I thought I could learn how to properly hold notes without almost passing out, etc. Unfortunately she had a distaste for gospel singers, unbeknownst to me and sent me an email suggesting I try something else. I did learn one valuable lesson from her, be sure to do research and interview (if possible), the instructor was $40 for a half hour lesson which was quite pricy for me at that time. But it was important to me, so I invested $1,000 into myself and have not forgotten the lesson of doing my research before leaping. I’m glad you found someone so nurturing and knowledgeable! Now I’m going to sing until my company arrives to get my fix for today! Stay fabulous and keep the videos coming!

Oh Rajiv, this was wonderful! I completely agree with you that everyone should sing, whether you think you can or not. I used to sing in a children's' choir and in high school chorus, but hadn't sung in decades. At a certain point I was shocked to realize that I could barely produce a note anymore, so at the age of seventy I found a singing teacher and with much trepidation started to learn how to sing again, and it's been so much fun and so rewarding. What an amazing teacher and an amazing student! I have a degree in voice and yet I'm still afraid to sing (alone) in front of people. My older sister was a child musical prodigy and, being the relatively later bloomer and the youngest in a whole family of musicians, I internalized a lot of feelings of inferiority that I've spent many years working through. Singing in choirs or behind the piano have always been my comfort zone, just enough "cover" to hide behind, while still doing what I love. The idea of filming one of my lessons and putting it up on KZbin for a big audience is utterly terrifying to me. Seeing you share so freely helps shift that fear in me. Thank you, as always, for sharing your gifts in this precious way that encourages and reminds us all of our own. 💛
